Description
Takeru Higa serves as a pivotal figure in advancing fourth-generation FullDive technology, operating under Kikuoka Seijirou at Rath to spearhead Project Alicization. This clandestine initiative seeks to cultivate bottom-up artificial intelligence through artificial fluctlights—human-like consciousnesses—grown in the simulated Underworld. His chief innovation, the Soul Translator, accelerates their evolution via Fluctlight Acceleration, exploiting time dilation for military-grade AI development.

A prodigy from Toto University’s Shigemura Lab, Higa trained alongside VR pioneers Kayaba Akihiko and Rinko Koujiro, his near-140 IQ fueling breakthroughs in fluctlight replication. The loss of a friend in wartime conflict cemented his resolve to refine military AI, driving his relentless work at Rath.

Visually distinct with bleach-spiked hair, rounded glasses, and a wardrobe of frayed tees, cropped jeans, and scuffed sneakers, Higa’s informal demeanor extends to his speech, marked by the humble pronoun *boku*. His interactions aboard the Ocean Turtle reveal both technical acumen and moral pragmatism. Prior to Kirigaya Kazuto’s test dive, he cryptically references a "ghost" anomaly in Soul Translator trials. Later, alongside Kikuoka, he unveils Project Alicization’s true objective to Yuuki Asuna—using a replicated copy of his own fluctlight as proof of concept.

During the facility’s invasion, Higa intercepts Kazuto’s attempts to communicate from within Underworld, urging him to locate Alice while pushing Fluctlight Acceleration to its limits. A sudden power cutoff by assailants triggers a surge that paralyzes Kazuto’s mental functions mid-process. Through crises, Higa remains a pragmatic guide, navigating Asuna through the Ocean Turtle’s labyrinthine systems and explaining infrastructure like the maintenance robot Ichiemon, all while balancing ethical ambiguities against technological imperatives.
