Description
Goemon Ishikawa XIII carries the thirteenth-generation title of the historical Japanese bandit Ishikawa Goemon. Legend claims the original Goemon's infant son was pardoned or rescued before execution, preserving the bloodline. Alternatively, "Jusan-daime" (thirteenth) might indicate a theatrical lineage like kabuki role inheritance rather than direct descent. He debuted as Lupin III's foe in manga, ordered to assassinate him after Lupin targeted his clan's alchemic formula for unbreakable sword blades. After consistent failures, he allied with Lupin to gain deeper insights through observation.

A master swordsman, he brandishes the razor-sharp katana Zantetsuken, slicing through bullets, steel, and structures. He typically uses it non-lethally, destroying weapons or objects while announcing, "I have cut yet another worthless object" after neutralizing adversaries. His martial prowess spans kenjutsu, battōjutsu, jujutsu, aikido, and karate. He exhibits fierce pride in his skills and profound shame upon defeat or Zantetsuken's damage, often retreating to meditate or train.

His persona blends stoicism, intensive meditation, and strict adherence to traditional Japanese customs. He wears a kimono and hakama, eats exclusively Japanese cuisine, and enjoys enka music, fishing, and noh theater. Key vulnerabilities include susceptibility to women he views as innocent or trustworthy—frequently leading to betrayal—and an inability to deny children's pleas. Japanese food easily bribes or distracts him. While loyal to Lupin, he routinely criticizes his hedonism and may oppose him morally. He shares mutual respect with Daisuke Jigen, considering him an honorable warrior, but distrusts Fujiko Mine for her manipulative tactics. His appearance shifts across media: early iterations feature lavender or gray kimonos with bluish-gray hakama, while later designs adopt pink or white kimonos and a more youthful look.

In *Farewell to Nostradamus*, Lupin and Jigen encounter him during their Fujiko search and recruit him to steal Nostradamus's lost prophecies and rescue Julia, a presidential candidate's daughter. He aids in infiltrating a skyscraper vault, uncovers bombs planted by a hypnotized soccer team, and fights in the final clash against the Nostradamus cult. Post-heist, he identifies Julia's doodles on the prophecy pages, nullifying the book's value and triggering its destruction.
