Description
Ronie Arabel, sometimes translated as Ronye Arabel, hails from a sixth-class noble family in the Underworld's hierarchy. Her enrollment at the North Centoria Sword Mastery Academy sought to improve her family's standing through academic success. Although ranked among the top twelve students, her low nobility led elite swordsmen to reject her during valet selections, ultimately resulting in her assignment to Kirito alongside her friend Tiese Schtrinen's assignment to Eugeo after all others declined.
Petite with short brown hair and blue eyes, Ronie wore the academy's standard grey uniform. As an Integrity Knight apprentice post-graduation, she donned silverish-cyan armor over bluish-green clothing. Various media illustrations show differing bust sizes, with bath scenes confirming a fuller figure typically hidden by uniforms. Her name symbolizes her parents' wishes for her to embody loveliness, richness of heart, and earnestness.
At the academy, Ronie forged a close bond with Tiese, Kirito, and Eugeo, sharing activities like picnics and combat training. She and Tiese confronted nobles Raios Antinous and Humbert Zizek over their abuse of fellow valet Frenica Szeski. The nobles exploited a loophole to justify assaulting them for "disrespect," an incident halted by Kirito and Eugeo's intervention. This event triggered deep guilt in Ronie as her mentors faced arrest for violating the Taboo Index during the rescue.
During the War of Underworld, Ronie served in the Human Guardian Army's supply unit. She volunteered to protect the comatose Kirito after Alice Synthesis Thirty left for battle, witnessing Asuna Yuuki's arrival as the goddess Stacia, who saved her from Vassago Casals. Learning of Eugeo's death and Kirito's condition from Alice caused Ronie and Tiese emotional collapse. Later, she participated in discussions about Kirito's past with Asuna, Alice, and Sortiliena Serlut.
Post-war, promoted to Integrity Knight apprentice, Ronie raised a juvenile yellow dragon named Tsukigake and received the Moonbeam Sword, a divine object emitting blinding light and accelerating wound healing. In the "Moon Cradle" storyline, she undertook missions to Obsidia, investigating crimes including a staged murder and the kidnapping of Fanatio's daughter Leazetta. Her investigation succeeded by deducing the murder weapon's artificial nature and locating the kidnapper within a sealed throne room.
Ronie harbored unrequited feelings for Kirito, grappling with them in "Moon Cradle." She unfavorably compared herself to Asuna, attempting to suppress her emotions despite Asuna's empathetic support. Her arc involved accepting the one-sided nature of her affection while maintaining loyalty to Kirito.
She later assisted in suppressing the Rebellion of the Four Empires, personally confronting the Emperor of Norlangarth alongside Tiese. Two centuries later, during "Unital Ring" events, she and Tiese emerged from suspended animation to rescue their descendants Laurennei and Stica from an entity called the Abyssal Horror during a space battle.
Ronie evolved from an insecure academy student into a determined knight, characterized by investigative acumen, loyalty, and resilience. Her relationships with Tiese, Kirito, and Asuna remained central throughout her journey across multiple story arcs.
