Yamazaki is a high school senior and the initial subject of Tsukiko Izumisawa's photography, images she captures out of personal interest and sells to other students. His role becomes significant with the arrival of the new transfer student, Tomie Kawakami. Yamazaki develops an immediate and intense infatuation upon their first meeting. This obsession drives him to seek out the suspended and troubled Tsukiko to demand she photograph Tomie for him. His infatuation soon evolves into a state of complete subservience. Under Tomie's influence, he attempts to murder Tsukiko by strangling her with a cord, an act motivated solely by a desire to fulfill Tomie's wishes. This demonstrates his total psychological domination, transforming him from a student into a weapon. The attempt fails when Tsukiko defends herself by attacking his eyes with photographic developing solution, allowing her to escape. His actions are a direct result of Tomie's supernatural ability to compel obsessive devotion and violence in men, making him a pawn in her cruel games.
