Description
Masaru is the younger son of robotics scientist Dr. Kohmyoji and brother to Mitsuko. After an explosion destroys their father's laboratory, Masaru and Mitsuko are separated from Dr. Kohmyoji. Masaru accompanies his sister as they search for their missing father. During their search, they encounter Jiro, the android Kikaider created by Dr. Kohmyoji.
Masaru distrusts Jiro after witnessing him attack Mitsuko under the influence of Professor Gill's hypnotic flute, believing the android is dangerous. This distrust leads Masaru to temporarily ally with Saburo, who claims Dr. Kohmyoji sent him to destroy Jiro. Masaru actively helps Saburo pursue Jiro. He later realizes Jiro remains committed to protecting them when Jiro surrenders to prevent further conflict. Saburo is revealed to be the android Hakaider.
Masaru exhibits an emotionally transparent and energetic personality. He forms attachments quickly, befriending certain robots created by the organization DARK and mourning their destruction despite their antagonistic roles. Following Dr. Kohmyoji's brain being restored to his body and Professor Gill's defeat, Masaru departs Japan with his father and sister. Jiro chooses to stay behind, though Mitsuko hopes for his eventual return.
In the 2014 film *Kikaider REBOOT*, a reimagining of the story, Masaru and Mitsuko are targeted by Japan's Defense Minister because they possess a data chip containing Dr. Kohmyoji's research. Jiro protects them. Masaru shows immediate fondness for Jiro, while Mitsuko remains wary. This version does not feature Hakaider possessing Dr. Kohmyoji's brain or Masaru's alliance with Saburo.
Masaru does not appear in the *Kikaider 01* OVAs or the *Kikaider vs. Inazuman* OVA special, which focus on Jiro's story after the Kohmyoji family leaves Japan.
