Description
Inori Misuda is a student at Hijiribashi University Affiliated High School who serves as a shrine maiden alongside her teammate and partner, Fūka Tamaki. Together, they tend to a shrine dedicated to a water deity, performing rituals intended to keep the local rivers and waters calm. For Inori, jet racing is an extension of these sacred duties, serving as a form of ritual itself rather than merely a competitive sport. She and Fūka compete as the team Suiryukai, also known as the Sea Serpents, piloting a jet named Messie The Hunter.
Inori has a gentle and caring nature, typically presenting herself as polite and somewhat shy. She is sincere and consistent in her treatment of others, though her earnestness can make her appear overly serious or unable to take a joke. Despite her reserved demeanor, she possesses a strong inner resolve and is not afraid to stand up for herself, particularly when challenged directly or when the sanctity of her shrine is disrespected. Those who anger her may find that she becomes a frightening opponent. Her appearance reflects her traditional role, featuring chin-length, layered purple hair often held by a pink fuchsia ribbon and light green eyes. Her casual and racing attire are both stylized versions of shrine maiden garments.
Inori’s primary motivation is deeply intertwined with her relationship with Fūka Tamaki. She is deeply devoted to her partner, caring for her as more than just a friend or fellow shrine maiden. The central focus of Inori’s personal journey is not winning competitions like the Kandagawa Cup, but rather understanding and connecting with Fūka. She initially perceives Fūka’s aggressive and hot-tempered side as a kind of curse or spiritual ailment to be purified. In her efforts to "cure" her partner, Inori performs solo rituals, offers prayers, and even seeks out races against other teams, but these attempts only drive a wedge between them and cause the rivers to become dangerously turbulent. Her role in the story often involves ideological clashes with other racers, such as the team MKHU, whom she initially judges for seeking divine favor for fame and fortune before learning to empathize with their personal reasons for racing. In competitive races, Inori and Fūka prove to be a formidable team, with their synchronized partnership and skill making them serious contenders capable of exciting a race.
The key relationship in Inori’s life is undoubtedly with her partner, Fūka Tamaki. Their bond evolves significantly when Inori receives a vision from the water deity in a dream. The god reveals that her rituals have been performed improperly, teaching Inori that she cannot reject a part of Fūka as a curse. To truly love and accept Fūka, she must embrace her whole self, including her anger and intensity. This realization allows Inori to accept her own feelings fully, and she confesses to Fūka. Fūka accepts her in return, and their renewed, united bond as more than friends calms the raging waters when they perform their rituals as one. Her development is marked by this transition from attempting to change her partner to achieving reconciliation through vulnerability and acceptance. Outside of her relationship with Fūka, Inori enjoys solitary activities such as exploring abandoned places, drawn to solitude and a sense of history.
In the jet races, Inori holds the position of shooter. Her notable ability in this role is wielding a powerful Gatling gun as her primary weapon, which she uses to support Fūka, who pilots the jet. This calculated and effective firepower makes her a valuable asset in the team's competitive efforts, showcasing a more formidable side that complements her serene spiritual duties.
