OVA
Description
Dina Pan, also known as Pan Tina, is a supporting character in the anime Kandagawa Jet Girls. She is the younger twin sister of Pan Ziyu, and together they form the competitive jet racing and idol duo known as Hell's Kitchen, representing the CS Production School.
In terms of appearance, Dina is petite, standing 145 centimeters tall and weighing 38 kilograms, with body measurements of 76-55-75. She has plum-colored hair that is styled symmetrically with strands framing her ears and buns secured on either side of her head with scrunchies, and she possesses amber-yellow eyes. Her casual outfit is a bright schoolgirl or idol costume consisting of a light pink top with short white sleeves, a light lilac collar, and a dark pink plaid tie, paired with a plum skirt with white trim and green suspenders. She completes this look with thigh-high light lilac and blue stockings with gold buttons and plum heeled shoes, also wearing a blue panda brooch on her collar and a bangle on her wrist. Her racing attire doubles as her idol performance costume: a short black and gold Mandarin-style dress in two parts with a heart-shaped cutout above the chest and several red and purple bows, baring her midriff. She wears matching thigh-high heeled boots, gold wrist sleeves, a band on her upper arm featuring a panda head, and bright purple panda ears on her head.
Dina's personality presents a stark contrast between her public and private personas. On stage or while performing with her sister, she appears vibrant, enthusiastic, and happy. In reality, however, she is described as arrogant and selfish. This side of her character is demonstrated when she and her sister pressure the racing association to allow them to use the Kandagawa waterway by stealing another team's time slot, and when they later taunt the rival team of Rin Namiki and Misa Aoi, dismissing their previous victory as nothing more than beginner's luck. In competition, she and her partner embody a highly competitive and provocative spirit, frequently employing psychological tactics such as openly questioning opponents' abilities, particularly casting doubt on Misa Aoi's skills as a shooter.
Dina's background is intrinsically tied to her twin sister. Together, they work as cooking and sweets-themed idols who also compete in jet racing, using their racing performances to boost their visibility as idols. Their shared racing tactics emphasize synchronization and twin synergy, following the philosophy of "becoming one" with her sister. This manifests through physical coordination such as cuddling in changing rooms, placing hands on each other's waists, holding hands before jumps, and performing a "Jet Kiss Victory Pose" after wins.
Her motivations are explored through an internal conflict about whether to retire from idol life after winning the Kandagawa Cup in order to focus solely on jet racing. However, after receiving praise from other teams for successfully managing both demanding careers in a way that no one else could, Dina and her sister decide to continue their double life as both idols and racers.
Dina's role in the story positions Hell's Kitchen as direct rivals to the main protagonist team, fueling the competitive tension of the jet racing circuit. Despite her initial haughtiness, she and her sister later offer genuine performance advice to other teams, such as telling the Sea Serpents team to simply perform their Shrine Maiden duties and being honest about the Dress team's shortcomings in their stand-up shows. They also appear in other teams' storylines, often wagering autographs or backstage passes if they are beaten in a jet race.
Regarding development, while Dina begins as an antagonist who looks down on other racers, her character softens as she and her sister come to appreciate the value of their unique position as idol-racers. In one episode, Dina and her sister search the Kandagawa for a mysterious monster known as Nyu-Nyu for a television special, demonstrating their involvement in idol-related activities beyond racing. In an OVA, they create a jet racing promotional video that heavily emphasizes idol aesthetics, including summer themes and idol activities, though the Jet Racing board rejects it for lacking relevance to the sport's core appeal.
Notable abilities include her role as a Shooter in jet racing, where she demonstrates amazing balance and coordination, maintaining the same physical build as her twin sister. Her performance as an idol involves stage gestures such as forming heart symbols with her sister using their combined hands.
