Description
Kaguya Shinjūin, a competitive jet racer representing Musashino Girls High School, races alongside her devoted maid and lifelong companion Kuromaru Manpuku. Her aristocratic lineage manifests in silvery-gray hair coiled into curled drills secured by a butterfly clip and piercing violet eyes. She dons a lavender jacket paired with a long purple skirt as school attire, swapping it for a sleek black-and-purple wetsuit adorned with red accents during races.

Privileged yet fiercely independent, Kaguya demands immediate recognition of her prowess, challenging rivals Rin Namiki and Misa Aoi to a high-stakes race upon their first encounter to cement her dominance over the river. Her unyielding ambition to secure the Kandagawa Cup—fueled by a desire to prove her worth beyond her family’s shadow and protect her school’s racing team from her father’s interference—ignites heated rivalries. However, when Manpuku’s health falters from exhaustion, Kaguya sacrifices a critical race deadline, prioritizing their bond over victory. Competing teams later postpone the event in solidarity, enabling Dress to ultimately triumph.

Though bound by generations of familial service, Kaguya and Manpuku share a partnership deepened by mutual loyalty. Kaguya defies societal scorn over Manpuku’s shinobi heritage, regularly treating her to meals and defending her against prejudice. Their dynamic matures as Kaguya tempers her cutthroat ambition with empathy, notably clashing with Grindcore to oppose their reckless racing tactics.

Renowned as Dress’s formidable ace, Kaguya initially leans into her fearsome reputation but gradually embraces camaraderie. After conceding defeat to Rin and Misa in the Kandagawa Cup, she openly acknowledges their skill, vowing to refine her own abilities while transitioning from ruthless rival to honorable adversary. The OVA expands this growth as she collaborates with rival teams on a jet-racing promotional video, initially advocating a grueling training-focused narrative before recognizing the sport’s broader appeal beyond pure competition.

Rooted in the Shinjūin family lineage—a surname signifying "purple," "gathering," and "institution"—her aristocratic aloofness gradually gives way to self-driven resolve. Across her journey, Kaguya evolves from haughty heiress to a leader who champions teamwork, integrity, and the delicate balance between ambition and compassion.
