Description
Shinnosuke Nohara, also known as Shin-chan, is a five-year-old kindergarten student and the central character of the series who lives in Kasukabe, Saitama Prefecture, Japan, with his parents, Hiroshi and Misae, his younger sister Himawari, and the family dog, Shiro.

He is mischievous and outspoken, frequently engaging in socially inappropriate behavior like making scatological jokes, pulling down his pants to perform his signature "Buri Buri" dance, and flirting with older women. Despite his young age, he often lacks tact when speaking to adults and regularly mispronounces or misreads words. His favorite things are chocolate biscuits and the superhero "Action Kamen," while he holds a strong dislike for green bell peppers.

Beneath his crude exterior, Shinnosuke sometimes shows selfless kindness and maturity, such as saving a frog from a truck despite ruining his clothes or demonstrating concern for others' well-being. He maintains a close relationship with his family, though sibling rivalry with Himawari is common.

A background story suggests Shinnosuke may be inspired by a real young boy who died in a car accident while saving his younger sister. His mother, Misae, reportedly processed her grief by sketching memories of her son, which later inspired the manga character. The canonical origin within the series states that the character first appeared in a weekly manga magazine in 1990.

Throughout the series, Shinnosuke experiences various adventures, including the adoption of the family dog, Shiro, and the birth of his sister, Himawari. In the movie "Crayon Shin-chan: Fierceness That Invites Storm! Yakiniku Road of Honor," the Nohara family becomes involved in a conspiracy with a mysterious group called "Sweet Boys" and a hypnotic device. Shinnosuke plays a key role in resolving the situation by using the device to reset the chaos caused by the antagonists.

Character development paused after the death of the original manga creator in 2009, though the anime continued with new storylines. Shinnosuke's design and the animation style evolved over time, transitioning from traditional cel animation to digital ink and paint.
