Description
Lech Szymanowski, a Polish pianist competing in the International Chopin Piano Competition, carries the unofficial title “New Star of Poland.” Raised in a family steeped in musical tradition, his childhood blended rigorous training with a profound connection to the piano. Yet after his father’s death, he wrestled with uncertainty—was his devotion to music innate, or a burden of inherited expectations?

His life pivots on an unorthodox quest: winning the competition to revive his comatose older sister, injured in a bus accident, convinced triumph would fulfill her abandoned dreams. Early desperation drives him to manipulate performance schedules by feigning illness, prioritizing victory as a lifeline rather than ambition. This relentless focus softens as he discovers authentic artistry, not accolades, truly honors his sister. Her eventual awakening, defying familial doubt, becomes a quiet vindication of his stubborn hope.

Rivalries, particularly with Kai Ichinose, expose philosophical divides: Lech’s polished technique and classical rigor clash with Kai’s instinctive, emotive style. Though fiercely competitive, Lech avoids bitterness, acknowledging his own shortcomings and prioritizing musical kinship over rivalry. This mirrors his broader evolution—from craving external validation to valuing internal truth.

Blonde-haired and blue-eyed, his Polish heritage is visually unmistakable. Early vanity and calculated self-presentation give way to vulnerability as he confronts grief, guilt, and music’s capacity to bridge loss and meaning.
