Description
Ferdinand serves as Head Priest of the Ehrenfest temple, acting as mentor and guardian to apprentice shrine maiden Myne. He possesses light blue shoulder-length hair, pale golden eyes, and a stern expression that ages his appearance. His knight's armor features a rare blue cape, contrasting Ehrenfest's standard ocher.

Born Quinta in the Sovereignty, Ferdinand is the son of Lanzenave princess Seradina, tasked with bearing children for mana harvesting. He escaped execution intended for all but the highest-mana brother, fleeing to Ehrenfest. Granted the name Ferdinand by the previous archduke, he grew up an illegitimate son, enduring persistent abuse from stepmother Veronica: poisoned meals and untrustworthy retainers. This fostered deep distrust, especially toward women, and necessitated developing strong poison resistance.

Enrolling in the Royal Academy at ten, Ferdinand excelled across scholar, knight, and archduke candidate courses, achieving top grades. He mastered treasure-stealing ditter and harspiel, winning his blue cape in a ditter match against a Dunkelfelger knight. He accepted retainers including Justus, Eckhart, and Lasfam, though his trust remained conditional. He partially completed trials to become a Zent candidate, forcibly entering the Garden of Beginnings and absorbing a third of the Book of Mestionora's knowledge before halting. As Veronica's persecution intensified during his father's declining health, Ferdinand relinquished his noble status for the temple's protection, a move orchestrated by half-brother Sylvester. Veronica forced him to abandon his Ehrenfest cape, symbolically severing noble ties.

In the temple, Ferdinand became High Priest following political purges. He managed operations and handled Sylvester's delegated responsibilities, overworking to the point of relying on rejuvenation potions. Wary of assassination, he avoided temple meals after intercepting a poisoning attempt by High Bishop Bezewanst; he retaliated by diluting the poison into a nonlethal dose added to Bezewanst's food, establishing a strict rule prohibiting attendants from others' kitchens.

His relationship with Myne begins pragmatically; he values her mana and intellect, prioritizing merit over status. He intervenes when her uncontrolled mana nearly kills Bezewanst during negotiations, later accepting her conditions for temple service. As her mentor, he assigns attendants to teach noble etiquette, oversees orphanage reforms, and mediates conflicts like Lutz's family dispute. During trombe extermination, he protects her from insubordinate knights and publicly claims her under his custody after her immense mana capacity is revealed. Their bond deepens when he uses a memory-viewing tool to confirm her otherworldly origins; overwhelmed by shared emotions, he accepts physical comfort despite initial reluctance. He arranges her noble adoption for protection, postponing it at her request.

Ferdinand's loyalty extends to Ehrenfest's archducal family. He pledged support to Sylvester at their father's deathbed and aided dismantling Veronica's faction. A royal decree forces him to marry into Ahrensbach, where he uncovers conspiracies involving Detlinde and Georgine. Surviving assassination attempts, he requests aid from Rozemyne, whose intervention alters politics. His royal-linked lineage is revealed during events in the fifth story part, positioning him as a Zent candidate. To prevent civil war and adhere to divine mandates, he orchestrates a resolution: neutralizing rival candidate Gervasio, compelling royal family compliance, and engaging Rozemyne to form Alexandria's archducal family. As High Priest of Alexandria, he continues guiding her while fulfilling a long-unspoken desire for familial connection.

Ferdinand evolves from an isolated pragmatist to a figure capable of trust and emotional vulnerability, particularly with Rozemyne. His strategic acumen remains consistent in complex maneuvers like leveraging ditter tactics or outmaneuvering political foes. Despite initial reluctance to rely on others, his actions increasingly prioritize protecting those he values, finding fulfillment within their reconstructed family.
