Description
Effa is mother to Myne, Tuuli, and Kamil, and wife to Gunther, residing in Ehrenfest's lower city. She works as a textile dyer at the Heuss Workshop. Her father served as Ehrenfest's gate commander, where she met Gunther during his apprenticeship under him. Gunther persistently courted her, eventually securing her affection and her father's permission to marry. Their family endured two miscarriages and the death of their first son shortly after birth before Tuuli, Myne, and later Kamil were born.

Effa has jade-green hair and eyes, typically tying her hair up under a kerchief. She wears secondhand tunics and ankle-length skirts common to Ehrenfest's lower district. Otto and others note her fine features, considering her beauty seemingly "wasted" on Gunther due to his ordinary appearance.

Kind, practical, and hardworking, Effa shares creative textile and sewing talents with Tuuli. Though even-tempered, she shows exasperation toward Myne and Gunther's unconventional habits and fiercely opposes wastefulness. She demonstrates protective instincts, defying nobles to shield Myne. Despite Myne’s chronic illness and difficult behavior, Effa provided unwavering care, including storytelling during her bedridden periods.

Her expertise includes exceptional dyeing and sewing skills. Neighborhood admiration followed her creation of Tuuli’s baptism dress, and she rapidly mastered crocheting after briefly observing Myne. Her dyeing knowledge later aided paper production color fixation advice. Effa admires renowned seamstress Corinna, Benno’s sister, and becomes flustered when Corinna evaluates her work on Myne’s baptism dress.

During Myne’s struggles with the Devouring, Effa prioritized her care, though unintentionally burning Myne’s prepared wood tablets triggered a severe health crisis. After Kamil’s birth, Myne’s adoption by Archduke Sylvester led Effa to channel emotions into intensified housekeeping, maintaining spotless conditions for potential visits and Kamil’s well-being. Her marriage to Gunther remains strong, marked by mutual support despite neighborhood disbelief over her choice among past suitors.
