Description
**Kenzo Hyodo** appears in the anime series *Battle Spirits: Shounen Gekiha Dan* and its sequel *Battle Spirits Brave*, with blue-green hair and matching eyes. In *Gekiha Dan*, he dons a yellow ladybug-adorned headband, a green-and-white shirt, plaid shorts, and long yellow socks; his battle form manifests a yellow horned skull. His *Brave* redesign features a red-and-yellow shirt resembling Dan Bashin's earlier attire, blue shorts, borrowed glasses, and a white lab coat. Later, he sports a bobcut hairstyle with layered shirts and white pants, sometimes replacing his headband with a plain version while wearing a ladybug necklace.
Personality-wise, Kenzo balances mature insight with childish fears and impatience, reacting angrily when provoked. Initially selfish—prioritizing invincibility in card battles over others—he evolves into a protective comrade. A certified genius, he debuts as a nine-year-old Earth-born card battler with tournament victories.
During *Gekiha Dan*, Kenzo enters the Grand Rolo Championship, defeating a possessed Suzuri using his green X-rare card, The BladeKingBeast Byak-Garo. After losing the finals to Dan Bashin during a tantrum, he reluctantly joins the core soldiers. He suggests aiding Kajitsu Momose's recovery by journeying to the green world. Repeatedly defeated by Leon's multi-color decks, Kenzo later overcomes his fear of becoming the sun to help destroy Grand Cores, defeating a green Pantera robot. He collaborates with Mai to implant an anti-military virus and lends Dan Byak-Garo for the final clash against the Otherworld King. The epilogue shows him at a core soldier reunion.
In *Brave*, set two years later, Kenzo works as a scientist alongside Stella Korabelishchikov in the future, researching Otherworld Observation Records. He uncovers the legend of the 12 Zodiac X-rares, crucial to preventing Earth's reset. Though less active in battles, he defeats Plym using a triple-Byak-Garo deck, sparking her infatuation. He aids in discovering human-mazoku genetic links after Barone's injury, helps locate an arctic shrine to activate the Zodiac X-rares, and witnesses Dan becoming Earth's savior. The epilogue depicts his return to his own time with Mai and Suzuri.
Manga depictions diverge slightly: in *Gekiha Dan*, he and Leon lose a tag duel against Mai and Kazan; *Brave* follows the anime's plot but excludes Stella as his colleague.
Kenzo exclusively wields green decks. Key cards include The BladeKingBeast Byak-Garo, Amenborg, Gabunohashi, The HeavyArmoredBug Caterbarga, and spells/nexuses like Thorn Prison and The Fruit of Wise Tree. His battle record lists wins against Clackey, Suzuri, Plym, and the Green Pantera, with losses to Dan and Leon.
Trivia notes frequent viewer gender confusion due to his appearance. Magisa and Stella habitually misremember his name, and the "blade" kanji in "Kenzo" aligns with his signature spirit, Byak-Garo.
