Description
Dan Bashin is the central protagonist across multiple franchise installments, starting with *Battle Spirits Shounen Gekiha Dan* and continuing through sequels like *Battle Spirits Brave* and *Battle Spirits Saga Brave*. Initially a 12-year-old battle enthusiast known online as "The Clash King," he wields red cards with a hot-blooded, excitable personality and a strong sense of justice. Transported to the alternate world of Grand Rolo during a championship, he learns he is the "red soldier," a bearer of the core's light destined to protect that world. He forms bonds with native inhabitants like Zungurii and allies Clackey Ray, Mai Viole, and Hideto Suzuri, collectively the core soldiers. His journey involves battling the forces of Otherworld King, enduring devastating losses—including a defeat that temporarily breaks his will—and ultimately unifying the core soldiers to save Grand Rolo. His growth shifts his motivation from personal thrill to protecting others, culminating in an attempt to absorb the "Mother Core" to save the world; his body proves unable to withstand it. The separation of worlds forces his return to Earth, leaving behind Grand Rolo friends.
In *Battle Spirits Brave*, set two years later at age 14, his character evolves significantly. Invited by Mai Shinomiya to a future where Mazoku oppress humanity, he constructs a new deck incorporating the "brave" card type and utilizes all card colors while retaining red as his primary focus. His motivations shift toward protecting both humans and Mazoku from the impending "Earth's reset," driven by a belief in coexistence. He acts as a parental figure to the children En and Fant and rekindles alliances with former comrades Clackey and Suzuri. His conflicts include repeated battles against the brainwashed Duc and complex interactions with the Mazoku queen and Barone. A major development is his romantic relationship with Mai, though their paths diverge when she joins Barone's cause. The season concludes with his heroic sacrifice, becoming the "trigger" for the 12 Zodiac X-rares to prevent Earth's reset, leaving his fate ambiguous.
The sequel *Battle Spirits Saga Brave*, set ten years after *Brave*, resolves his fate, revealing his survival and return. Now an adult, he reunites with allies during a celebration of his sacrifice, an event that also exposes lingering tensions between humans and Mazoku. His reappearance occurs amid a crisis orchestrated by the anti-Mazoku group Cardinal Sign. Across all media, his character arc consistently emphasizes themes of self-sacrifice, unwavering determination against hopeless odds, and a commitment to protecting all beings regardless of origin. His battle style evolves from reliance on red dragons in Gekiha Dan to a versatile multi-color brave-focused strategy in Brave, utilizing key spirits like The SunDragon Sieg-Apollodragon and The SunDragonDeity Rising-Apollodragon. His personality matures from childish exuberance to a more serious, occasionally darker demeanor during intense battles, though his core justice and empathy endure.
