Botaro "Bo-chan" Ikawa is a five-year-old in the Sunflower Class at Futaba Kindergarten and a core member of the Kasukabe Defense Organization. Known for his slow speech and often expressionless face, frequently accompanied by a trail of nasal mucus, he nonetheless displays surprising intelligence and insight. His specific interests include collecting unusual stones—with self-proclaimed knowledge of prime Japanese locations for this—and investigating urban legends, UFOs, and other mysterious phenomena. Within the Kasukabe Defense Force, Bo-chan demonstrates loyalty, frequently volunteering for animal roles like a dog or cat during pretend play. He shares a notably understanding relationship with Shin-chan, consistently remembering and passively supporting his activities, readily joining imaginative games others might dismiss. Bo-chan provides emotional stability to Masao, calming him during distress, and Shin-chan occasionally cites him as rivaling Kazama in intelligence. During the events of "Otakebe! Kasukabe Yasei Ōkoku," Bo-chan and other Defense Force members accidentally consume a partial animalization serum at Shin-chan's home. This transforms him into a pangolin hybrid, retaining his human head but gaining the animal's body. Despite this physical change, he actively participates in the group's mission to confront the SKBE organization and reverse the animalization affecting Kasukabe's residents. Beyond daily adventures, an adult version appears in "Super-Dimension! The Storm Called My Bride," working as a roboticist and inventor in his mid-20s, indicating a career path aligning with his creative and analytical traits. His family background is minimally explored; his mother appears once in the manga, while his father remains unseen across all media. Physically, Bo-chan is the tallest among his peers, primarily due to his head proportions. His persistent nasal mucus is a consistent trait, sometimes manipulated for tricks. Despite his peculiarities, he maintains supportive friendships with Nene, Masao, Kazama, and particularly Shin-chan, whose unconventional behavior he accepts and joins without judgment.
