Hyuga leads the Hachibushu, eight legendary warriors protecting Tenkūkai and its ruler, Lady Vishnu, from threats such as the Asura Gods. His personality is characterized by intense focus, seriousness, and a strong disdain for laziness or indiscipline. He typically masks his emotions but harbors unrequited feelings for Renge, another Hachibushu member. Early in the series, Hyuga and Shurato are falsely accused of petrifying Lady Vishnu, a scheme orchestrated by the traitorous advisor Indrah. This framing turns fellow Hachibushu against them, forcing Hyuga to ally with Shurato, Ryōma, and later Reiga to clear their names and restore Vishnu, forming the core "good" Hachibushu group. Hyuga's initial unwavering loyalty to Vishnu and Tenkūkai's order clashes with his growing distrust of Indrah, creating significant internal conflict as he reevaluates his allegiances. Hyuga wields ice manipulation powers. His Shakti armor resembles a Bengal tiger and mythical Deva beings. Key techniques include Deva's Crystal Bind (immobilizing opponents with ice chains), Deva's Magical Subduing Steel, and Deva's Magical Destroyer Steel. Like other Hachibushu, he can partially transform his Shakti into a Valuda—a hoverboard-like vehicle—for swift travel across Tenkūkai. He participates in combination attacks, such as the Mandala Formation with Shurato, Ryōma, and Reiga, to counter coordinated enemy assaults. In the OVA *Dark Genesis*, Hyuga continues defending Tenkūkai. He investigates disturbances tied to Scrimil, a mysterious entity claiming to be a "deity of harmony." While probing anomalous Sohma energy alongside Ryōma, they are ambushed by military forces, revealing ongoing dangers despite previous resolutions. Hyuga's character arc involves navigating complex loyalties—especially his affection for Renge, who remains devoted to Indrah—and his commitment to justice. His journey shifts from rigid adherence to authority toward a more nuanced stance forged through betrayal and alliance with fellow outcasts.
