Description
Ranko Kanzaki is a 14-year-old idol from Kumamoto, born on April 8th, with striking gray hair and red eyes. She consistently wears gothic lolita-style outfits in dark purple, black, and white, often detailed with lace or ruffles and occasionally accessorized with a lace umbrella.
Ranko crafts an elaborate chuunibyou persona as "Brunhilde," a self-proclaimed half-angel, half-demon princess ruling over darkness. She expresses this identity through dramatic "Ranko-go" speech patterns, using archaic language, mythological references, and phrases like "Drown in the darkness!" She interprets "darkness" positively, frequently leading to misunderstandings. Despite her affinity for gothic aesthetics and themes of holy or infernal power, she dislikes horror elements and is easily frightened by horror media.
Beneath the Brunhilde persona, Ranko is inherently shy, socially anxious, and prone to stumbling over her words or embarrassment. Initially striving to suppress her ordinary self entirely for the persona, guidance from her producer helps her recognize that her genuine personality is integral. She gradually learns to accept and integrate both aspects, embracing vulnerability without abandoning creative expression.
Her relationships reflect this duality. She forms a close bond with Asuka Ninomiya, showing embarrassment when Asuka praises her artwork. Ranko also maintains friendships and collaborates with idols like Chitose Kurosaki and Koume Shirasaka. She admires Noa Takamine for her cool demeanor and aspires to the perceived holiness of Clarice. Professionally, Ranko performs solo as Rosenburg Engel and participates in groups including Dark Illuminate with Asuka Ninomiya, Fortuna Regina with Chitose Kurosaki, and Ao no Gakudan ~Azul Música~.
Ranko enjoys drawing and consuming hamburg steak, which she metaphorically calls her "forbidden fruit." Her journey centers on navigating the tension between her flamboyant stage persona and reserved true self, achieving a balance where both coexist. This reconciliation allows her to continue idol activities while acknowledging the validity of her unembellished personality.
