Yumeko Tendō is a human character featured in the 1985 anime adaptation of *GeGeGe no Kitarō* and related media. A fourth-grade elementary school student standing 143 cm tall and weighing 39 kg, she belongs to the Tendō family with parents Masao and Yūko, and younger brother Hoshirō. She aspires to become a picture book author.

Physically, Yumeko possesses long brown hair styled with short bangs reaching her eyebrows. She typically wears a blue dress featuring white sleeves and collar, paired with white socks and blue shoes.

Her personality centers on kindness and a steadfast belief in peaceful coexistence between humans and yōkai. This philosophy aligns her closely with Kitarō, whom she considers both a friend and potential romantic interest. Her affection for Kitarō often sparks conflict with Neko-Musume, creating a frenemy dynamic. She maintains a complex relationship with Nezumi-Otoko, enduring his inappropriate advances while occasionally leveraging his behavior to aid Kitarō. She consistently shows compassion toward Shu-no-Bon; his admiration, leading him to call her an "angel," ultimately drives his redemption arc. This culminates in Shu-no-Bon's self-sacrifice during the Jigoku storyline to protect Kitarō and others.

Yumeko first appears in the 1985 anime's second episode ("Kagami-Jijii"), encountering Kitarō after being trapped inside a mirror by the yōkai Kagami-Jijii. She appears sporadically throughout the series thereafter. In manga canon, she debuts in "Nurarihyon's Final Battle" (1986). Later cameo appearances in the *Saishinban GeGeGe no Kitarō* manga imply she eventually reaches high school age.

Her name carries etymological significance: "Yumeko" combines "yume" (夢, meaning "dream" or "vision") and "ko" (子, meaning "child"), while "Tendō" (天童) translates to "cherub" or "gods disguised as children," loosely interpreting her full name as "dream child from the heavens."
