Kyōko Irokawa
Description
Kyōko Irokawa is a Japanese voice actor born on November 7, 1963, in Chiba Prefecture. She began her voice acting career in 1983 and has worked as a freelance performer, having previously been affiliated with the talent management firm Dōjinsha Production. Beyond her work in animation, she has also served as a lecturer at the Tokyo Broadcasting Academy’s radio voice actor program.
Irokawa is recognized for several significant roles in anime from the 1980s. One of her earliest and most prominent parts was Riml Luft in the 1983 Sunrise mecha series Aura Battler Dunbine, a role she performed for the entire 47-episode run of the original television series. She reprised this character in the OVA sequel, Aura Battler Dunbine: The Tale of Neo Byston Well. Another notable early role was Tsubame Ōzora in the comedy series Stop! Hibari-kun.
Her career is also notably connected to the long-running Gegege no Kitarō franchise. In the third television anime series, which aired in 1985, she provided the voice for Yumeko Tendō, a major character. She voiced the same character in multiple animated films from that era, including Gegege no Kitarō: Gekitotsu!! Ijigen Yōkai no Daihanran and Gegege no Kitarō: Saikyō Yōkai Gundan! Nihon Jōriku!!. Decades later, she returned to the franchise for a new role, voicing the character Vampire Monroe in a 2020 episode of the sixth Gegege no Kitarō television series.
Throughout her career, Irokawa has voiced a wide array of supporting characters in other popular productions. Her other television anime credits include roles such as Ms. Moriyama in the second Himitsu no Akko-chan series, Cindy Wagner in Future GPX Cyber Formula, a female student in Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, and the character Shouyu in Super魔神英雄传. In the 1990s, she had guest roles in long-running series like Crayon Shin-chan and Genki Bakuhatsu Ganbaruger. She also contributed to the animated film versions of Gegege no Kitarō and the long-running children's series Anpanman, where she was the first voice actor for the character Little Note.
