Description
Shirō Ashiya, originally the demon Alciel, served as one of Satan's Four Great Archdemon Generals in Ente Isla. As Satan's foremost military strategist and trusted adviser, he commanded the Eastern invasion forces, sharing his lord's view of human life as expendable and participating in numerous atrocities during their conquest. Before joining Satan, he led the formidable Iron Scorpions clan, known for defensive prowess and telekinesis, ultimately submitting to Satan after defeat in combat.
Following their defeat by the hero Emilia and retreat through a dimensional gate, Ashiya and Satan arrived in modern Tokyo. Stripped of most demonic powers by Earth's lack of magic, he adopted the human identity Shirō Ashiya, losing his carapace armor, tail, and pointed ears. He retained his height but appeared thinner and less muscular. Ashiya assumed domestic duties in their shared apartment, self-identifying as a "house-husband" and managing finances with extreme frugality. This intensified when Lucifer (Urushihara) joined them, as Ashiya struggled to curb Lucifer's spending on online shopping and video games. His financial strictness became an exploitable weakness; Emi Yusa (Emilia) occasionally bribed him with monetary rewards for information.
Despite adapting, Ashiya maintained a sense of demonic superiority and lamented their reduced circumstances. He remained steadfastly loyal to Satan, addressing him as "Your Majesty" publicly and often self-flagellating over perceived failures. His tactical intellect persisted, driving him to research power restoration methods at local libraries. Ashiya demonstrated protective instincts toward Chiho Sasaki, immediately apologizing for insensitive remarks about human physiology near her. His relationship with Rika Suzuki grew complex; while stating her romantic feelings pleased him but were unreciprocated, others noted his obliviousness to his own developing emotions, compounded by his belief she only knew his human guise.
In combat, Ashiya's demonic abilities included energy projection, telekinesis, defensive barriers, and flight, often channeled through X-shaped arm gestures. His unique green demonic aura and resilient carapace earned recognition as Satan's most durable general. On Earth, his powers could replenish by absorbing negative human emotions but remained limited outside crises. Cultural misunderstandings arose, like his reference to "UNICLO" shirts—a parody of UNIQLO—highlighting gradual acclimatization.
Physiological differences include Ashiya's comment implying demons possess multiple hearts. His name "Alciel" derives from the Chaldean myth's lowest level of Hell, analogous to Gehenna in Jewish tradition or Abbadon, the "place of destruction."
