Description
Tsubomi Hanasaki begins as a shy, reserved middle school student transferring to Kibougahana Middle School. Initially lacking confidence and struggling to make friends, she nurtures a deep love for plants and flowers, inherited from her grandmother, the renowned botanist Hanasaki Kaoruko. Tsubomi moves in with her grandmother after her parents relocate overseas.
Her life transforms upon encountering Chypre, a fairy from the Heart Tree's Garden of Light. Chypre reveals Tsubomi is destined to become a Pretty Cure, protecting Heart Flowers – manifestations of human hearts – from the Desert Apostles who seek to drain them and turn the world barren. Though reluctant due to her timid nature, Tsubomi accepts the responsibility to protect a classmate, transforming into Cure Blossom, the Pretty Cure of the Bloom. Her transformation item is the Heart Seed Perfume, and her primary weapon is the Blossom Tact.
As Cure Blossom, Tsubomi fights alongside her energetic classmate and eventual best friend, Erika Kurumi (Cure Marine). Her design features pink as the primary color, incorporating flower motifs into her costume, notably a large blossom on her chest and floral accents. Her attacks involve summoning and manipulating giant flowers or petals, such as "Pretty Cure Flower Hurricane" and "Pretty Cure Floral Power Fortissimo."
Throughout her journey, Tsubomi undergoes significant personal growth. Facing challenges like confronting powerful Desert Apostles and overcoming personal fears and insecurities, she gradually becomes more confident, assertive, and resilient. Her gentle nature and empathy remain core, often enabling her to understand and connect with adversaries or those under attack. Her bond with Erika provides crucial mutual support, strengthening their teamwork. Her grandmother offers guidance and wisdom regarding hearts and flowers.
Tsubomi's responsibilities extend beyond battle; she actively nurtures Heart Flowers, symbolizing her role in fostering hope, courage, and positive emotions. This nurturing aspect is central. Her development culminates in gaining Super Silhouette forms and the ultimate Cure Blossom Phoenix form, representing her full potential and inner fire ignited by love and determination.
In crossover appearances, such as "Precure All-Stars DX3," Tsubomi, alongside Cure Marine and other Pretty Cures, participates in large-scale battles against enemies threatening the Prism Flowers. These events demonstrate her ability to cooperate effectively within a larger group to protect interconnected worlds. Her established traits – kindness, empathy, growing confidence, and a strong sense of duty – remain consistent. Her core drive to protect the beauty of hearts and nature persists across all media.
