TV-Series
Description
Kururun is a seal-like fairy from Grand Ocean, the underwater mermaid kingdom. Originally the Mermaid Queen's pet, they boast a pinkish-white body, a peach tail, pink heart-shaped ears, and blue eyes with cyan heart accents. Communication is limited to "kururun," "kuru," or "run," relying on gestures and expressions for others to understand; Minori Ichinose excels at this due to her creativity and story knowledge. Kururun operates at their own leisurely pace, displaying mischievous tendencies and limited intelligence, often acting without fully grasping situations.

Sent by the Queen to deliver an important item to Laura, Kururun loses it en route and washes ashore, meeting Manatsu Natsuumi and her friends. After the group retrieves the item—revealed as the Queen's sweets—Kururun chooses to stay on land. They frequently participate in or spark minor incidents: hiding with Laura during school inspections, helping retrieve the confiscated Mermaid Aqua Pot, and accompanying Laura when imprisoned in the Witch of Delays' dungeon, where they unsuccessfully try stealing keys and get briefly captured. Kururun accidentally causes Laura to eat Manatsu’s premium melon bread through improper storage and nearly reveals their presence during a school press visit by making noise, forcing the girls to disguise them as a stuffed animal.

During a trip, Kururun sneaks into Asuka’s bag alongside Laura, causing frustration, and later shows concern seeing the darkened sky before the final battle. In one episode, Kururun dreams of transforming into "Cure Kururun" using Cure Summer’s Tropical Pact and Heart Kuru Ring. This dream sequence involves makeup-like enhancements, longer whiskers and tail, gaining gloves, an inner tube, and a collar, followed by swimming and a self-introduction, though this form possesses no special abilities and remains non-canonical. Kururun also extends a seashell cookie to comfort a lonely Elda, who rejects it. Later, during a Grand Ocean visit, Kururun detects irregularities when the impostor Queen (Numeri in disguise) fails to pat them, leading to the discovery of the real Queen’s captivity.

As the threat escalates, Kururun is deliberately left behind with seashell cookies during the final battle against the Whale Yaraneeda for safety. They wait hidden inside a shell container, emerging afterward to encounter Manatsu’s family before joining a slumber party in the Mermaid Aqua Pot. After the villains' defeat, Kururun returns to the ocean with Laura, becoming her pet upon her ascension as Queen and initially losing their memories due to Grand Ocean tradition. The Mermaid Aqua Pot later overloads the memory-erasure machine, restoring Kururun’s memories and enabling a reunion with their human friends in Aozora City.

Trivia includes Kururun’s birthday on September 6th, determined through wordplay ("kugatsu" for September and the reversible numbers 9 and 6). Their favorite food is seashell cookies, especially those made from Grand Ocean’s Bubble Flowers. Unlike typical fairy mascots, Kururun serves primarily as a companion rather than an expositional guide, a role filled by Laura. The character’s inclusion was solidified after a staff member’s seal plushie convinced the director to retain them despite initial doubts.
