Description
Kururun is a seal-like fairy who first appears in Tropical-Rouge! Precure as a resident of Grand Ocean, the undersea kingdom ruled by the Mermaid Queen. Originally the pet of the Mermaid Queen, Kururun is sent to the surface to deliver a gift to Laura, the young mermaid who dreams of becoming queen. Washed ashore and discovered by the members of the Tropical Club, Kururun soon becomes a constant companion and ally to the Pretty Cure team, later becoming Laura’s own pet after Laura inherits the throne.
In terms of personality, Kururun moves entirely at their own pace. They are largely carefree, easygoing, and primarily interested in looking adorable and doing very little else. There is a gentle, playful side to them, and they are known for being mischevious rather than clever. While not intellectually sharp, Kururun expresses friendliness and loyalty, forming bonds with the group through sheer presence. Their distinctive call is a soft “kururun!”, which they use in place of speech.
Kururun’s motivations are straightforward: they want to help Laura and the Cures however they can, though what that help looks like is more often emotional support than active intervention. They show no grand ambition or personal quest beyond staying close to their companions and being a calming, cute presence in their lives.
Within the story, Kururun serves as an ally rather than a magical warrior. Unlike many fairy mascots in the franchise, Kururun does not grant transformation items, provide tactical guidance, or participate directly in battles. Their role is one of quiet companionship, occasionally inspiring the team simply by being themselves. At one point Kururun has a dream in which they become “Cure Kururun” and join the fight, but this remains a fantasy, and they wake up disappointed, underscoring that their contributions are grounded in everyday affection rather than special powers.
Key relationships revolve around Laura, who acts as caregiver and eventually owner, though communication between the two can be imperfect. Among the Cures, Kururun is closest to Minori Ichinose, demonstrating a particular fondness for her.
