TV-Series
Description
Howan is a female Myumon of the white fox, or arctic fox, race who originates from a small northern village called Eiyatto Village. Her appearance is distinctive and reflects her rural roots combined with a budding urban sensibility. She has baby pink hair typically styled in a side ponytail, bright blue eyes, and matching fox ears adorned with red and white twisted cord ribbons that hold small bells. Her large, fluffy tail is pink in color with a darker tip. Her signature outfit is a navy blue, sleeveless sailor-style top with a yellow neckerchief, paired with a red skirt that features deep V-shaped slits resembling a hakama. She wears thigh-high blue tabi socks and red geta sandals secured with cord straps. A thick red-and-white twisted cord belt tied into a large bow with a central bell completes her look.
Howan possesses a cheerful, curious, and earnest personality. She grew up dreaming of going to the city to experience wonderful and amazing things, which fuels her initial journey. Her curiosity is boundless, and she finds anything new or foreign that city people do to be incredibly cool, often expressing her amazement with her characteristic catchphrase howa howaaaa. She is good-natured and kind-hearted, but also has the ability to say no to things she dislikes, showing she is not without a backbone. On the surface, she can seem relaxed or even a little slow, but beneath this exterior lies a strong spirit and a fierce determination to never give up or lose. She loves to sing and is the vocalist and guitarist for her band, Mashumairesh.
Despite her strengths, Howan has several notable weaknesses. She is not skilled with numbers or mathematics and can be quite clumsy, often misplacing her belongings. Her naivety about modern city life extends to technology, as she has struggled to understand basic devices, once mistaking a photograph for something on television and even leaving her phone in the refrigerator. However, these traits are contrasted by her domestic abilities; she is an excellent cook and is very good at cleaning and housework. A key aspect of Howans internal world is her dislike of showing negative emotions. When she feels upset or jealous, particularly regarding her close relationship with her bandmate Mashima Himeko, she quickly labels herself a bad girl.
Howans primary motivation is her deep-seated desire to experience the wonders of the big city, a dream she held while living in the countryside where she previously worked part-time shoveling snow. This dream leads her to MIDICITY, where her musical journey truly begins. Her role in the story is centered on forming and growing with the band Mashumairesh. After arriving in the city, she has a fateful encounter with three other musiciansHimeko, Delmin, and Ruhuyuand through a series of emotional events, they officially form their band. As the bands vocalist and guitarist, Howan is the driving force behind much of their music, with her love for singing and performing being a core part of her identity.
Howans most significant relationship is with Mashima Himeko. The two live together, with Howan typically taking on most of the household duties like cooking and cleaning. Their bond is a central emotional anchor of the narrative. Early on, Howan experiences jealousy when others get close to Himeko, a feeling she struggles to reconcile with her desire to be a good person. This tension comes to a head when Himeko admits she was afraid of losing Howan after an event, leading to an emotional reconciliation that solidifies their partnership and leads directly to the formation of their band. Their relationship is deep and mutually supportive, frequently interpreted by audiences as carrying romantic undertones, though it is left open-ended. She also shares strong bonds with her other bandmates, the shy and delusional Ruhuyu and the outcast demon Delmin, forming a found family unit in the city.
Howans character development is defined by her journey of adapting to city life while maintaining her core values. She matures from a completely naive country girl into a more grounded musician who has forged deep friendships and confronted her own insecurities, particularly those involving jealousy and her self-worth. Her resilience and hatred of losing drive her to overcome obstacles, whether they are related to her own clumsiness or the interpersonal dynamics within her new band. Howans notable abilities include her talent for singing and playing the electric guitar, which she inherited from her grandfather. Her guitar, which she calls Happy Eiyatto, is modeled after an akabeko, a traditional red cow toy, and is one of her most prized possessions. Beyond music, her skills in cooking and cleaning are exceptional, and her endless well of curiosity and optimism often serves as the emotional engine that pulls her bandmates forward.
