Description
Hiroko Maki, later adopting the surname Sakamoto upon marriage, taught art at Hijiri Academy, where her warm, approachable nature and gentle demeanor earned her admiration from students. She possessed light brown hair and brown eyes, traits that complemented her nurturing presence. Her relationship with artist Masashi Sakamoto endured years of separation as he traveled extensively, often residing in France. The emotional toll of his prolonged absences tested their bond, but they wed in the series’ fourth volume, prompting her resignation from teaching to join him abroad.

Akira Sudou, a student whose unrequited affection for her began in middle school, struggled with unresolved feelings exacerbated by her marriage to Masashi—his estranged half-brother and former mentor. This tangled dynamic strained Akira’s budding relationship with protagonist Midori Saejima, compelling him to temporarily abandon his studies and pursue Masashi overseas. Through this journey, Akira confronted his attachment to Hiroko, achieving personal closure that deepened his commitment to Midori.

Hiroko’s influence on pivotal character arcs culminated in her departure from the academy. Post-wedding, she and Masashi embraced an itinerant life, concluding her academic role while leaving an indelible impact on those entwined with her story.
