Description
Nagisa Akatsuki is the younger sister of Kojou Akatsuki. Her black hair, typically tied in a high ponytail with a mint-blue ribbon and bangs framing her forehead, appears shorter due to the style but is notably long. She possesses reddish-brown eyes and commonly wears the Saikai Academy uniform.

Cheerful and playful by nature, Nagisa is often chatty with individuals she likes, such as Kojou or Yukina Himeragi. She occasionally misreads social situations, exemplified by her excited reaction to La Folia Rihavein kissing Kojou without acknowledging the jealousy from others like Yukina, Sayaka Kirasaka, or Asagi Aiba. She harbors a specific dislike for Sayaka stemming from prior hostile encounters and addresses family members by their given names rather than relational terms. She is a member of the school cheerleading club, proficient in cooking—often preparing meals for her family—and shows affection for cats, assisting a classmate in caring for strays.

Four years before the main events, Nagisa suffered severe injuries during the Black Death Emperor Front's excavation of Avrora Florestina, leaving her in a vegetative state. Transported to Itogami Island for treatment, she became possessed by "Root," an entity that awakened roughly three and a half years later. Using Nagisa's body, Root manifested as the Fourth Primogenitor, hunting and consuming other Kaleid Bloods. Lacking inherent memories, Root fed on human memories as sources of magical energy, triggering a mass vampire-turning incident. Avrora Florestina and Kojou ultimately destroyed Root. Before Root perished, Nagisa transferred Avrora’s consciousness into her own body, resulting in the loss of her spiritual medium abilities and all memories tied to Avrora. Her mother, Mimori Akatsuki, became her personal physician. Publicly, the incident was attributed to a fabricated train accident caused by demons in Rome.

Despite physical recovery, Nagisa retains an intense, trauma-induced fear of demons, freezing upon encountering them—a response rooted in Root's possession, not the false accident narrative. This manifests as mild PTSD symptoms, primarily the demon-related phobia. Originally possessing psychometry as a spirit medium and hyper adapter hybrid—allowing her to locate ancient ruins and decipher epigraphs, a talent sought by academics—this ability was eradicated by the trauma of Root’s possession. Conversely, Avrora’s consciousness residing within her grants access to the 12th Kaleid Blood’s capabilities, including summoning the familiar Alrescha-Glacies, which can reduce temperatures to absolute zero.

Her friendship with Yuuma Tokoyogi began when Yuuma and Kojou retrieved her hat from a cliffside. Later, Nagisa employs a ritual called Teokratia to implant her memories of daily life on Itogami Island into girls serving as Beast Vassal Warhead icons. These fused memories—blending Nagisa's experiences with Avrora’s soul—provided familiarity and ease of absorption for the icons, enabling them to envision futures coexisting with their tamed Beast Vassals.

Her name combines "nagi" (凪, meaning "calm" or "lull") and "sa" (沙, "sand"), while her surname "Akatsuki" (暁) translates to "dawn" or "daybreak".
