Description
Hattrap, known in the Japanese version as Hatrap Kayama, is a character from the anime Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens. He is a small, intelligent rock pigeon with primarily white feathers, blue feathers around his neck, and green feathers on his head. He has orange eyes and is often seen wearing a small capsule on his ankle for transporting messages. When acting as one of The Heavy Cavalry Rangers, he dons a small gold mask resembling a Roman helmet with red lenses.

Hattrap is a student at Goha 6th Elementary and serves as a strategist for the Heavy Cavalry Duel Club. He belongs to a family that runs a delivery service, CooQuill Express, and he has two older brothers and an older sister. The character is defined by his close partnership with Schubel Quill, a human boy who was raised by Hattrap's family. Hattrap deeply cares for Schubel, though the pair frequently argue, especially when Hattrap feels that Schubel has failed to follow his strategic instructions correctly. While Schubel has an aristocratic manner of speaking, Hattrap is known for his mischievous personality and habit of teasing others with lies and pranks, often ending his sentences with the sound rap. Despite his small size, he is quite arrogant about his dueling abilities and has been known to insist he does not need Schubel's help in moments of anger, though this is not truly the case.

Hattrap’s central role in the story is as the true strategic mastermind behind his partnership with Schubel. He is usually the one who devises plans and leads duels, while Schubel serves as his interpreter and physically plays the cards on his behalf because Hattrap, as a bird, cannot do so himself. This dynamic is initially a source of deception for other characters, who believe Schubel is the duelist. Hattrap specializes in a trap-oriented style of dueling designed to confuse and frustrate opponents. His notable abilities extend beyond card games; he is capable of using hypnosis to stun opponents and trap them in mental labyrinths or illusions, a tactic he effectively uses to break an opponent's fighting spirit. This strategy is highly effective, as seen when he causes Luke to lose his confidence completely during their duel.

Hattrap’s key relationships are primarily with Schubel Quill and, by extension, Asana Mutsuba. His history with Schubel is a formative one; the two were caught in a snowstorm as children and nearly perished, but they were rescued by Asana Mutsuba and her great-grandfather. This event strengthens his bond with Schubel and creates a sense of loyalty. Throughout the series, Hattrap shows little development in terms of changing his core personality, as he remains a prideful and tricky duelist. However, his relationship with Schubel deepens, demonstrating a reliance that goes beyond simple convenience; they are partners who need each other to succeed, with Hattrap providing the intellect and Schubel providing the physical means to execute their strategies.
