OVA
Description
Chihaya is an angel originating from the planet Eden, marked by unique black hair and black wings – traits considered abnormal amidst Eden's fair-haired, white-winged populace. This mutation led to childhood abandonment and discrimination, though declining birthrates ensured his care at St. Michael's Orphanage. Exceptional academic prowess, including a top score on a military entrance exam, secured his adoption by the archangel Michael during his teenage years.

Physically, he presents as a slender, short-statured youth of approximately 17 years. He possesses straight black hair, deep purple eyes, and a notably androgynous beauty others find striking. In human form, his hair reaches his neck; his angel form features waist-length hair often worn in a high ponytail alongside his signature black wings. His attire varies, including a sleeveless red button-up shirt with teal collars and pale yellow pants as seen in the OVA.

Chihaya serves as a "plus checker," tasked with observing and documenting humanity's ("Earthians") positive aspects to counter negative assessments. This role springs from his deep, unconditional love for humans, whom he perceives as fundamentally "joyful, fascinating and unforgettable" despite their flaws. His work frequently draws him into emotional entanglements with human affairs, contrasting sharply with his partner Kagetsuya's detached, pessimistic stance. While his optimism can manifest as naivety, he maintains high academic intelligence and top grades.

Key relationships shape his journey. His bond with Kagetsuya begins contentiously due to Kagetsuya's prejudice against Chihaya's appearance and pro-human views, but evolves into a forbidden romantic partnership, violating Eden's laws against homosexuality. They endure forced separation and societal condemnation through mutual loyalty. Chihaya shares a significant connection with his adoptive father, Michael, whose initial adoption based on academic merit deepens into genuine affection and protectiveness. He also feels kinship with "Lucifers" (fallen angels bearing black wings) due to their shared physical traits, challenging Eden's stigma.

His abilities encompass storm generation and navigating Earthian environments. He relies on Kagetsuya for practical skills like cooking and healing. Chihaya's character arc involves grappling with identity – questioning if his black wings signify impending "Black Cancer," a fatal condition affecting Lucifers – and reconciling his loyalties to Eden with his love for humanity and Kagetsuya. Critical moments, such as witnessing the exile and death of plus-checker leader Seraphim, fortify his resolve to protect Earthians and challenge Eden's judgements.

Notable trivia includes his preference for vanilla ice cream. While his Japanese name carries varied potential meanings, it holds no inherent meaning when written in Hiragana.
