Description
Oscar is an elderly man who lives in a mountain community with his young granddaughter Anna. Before the events of the story, he and his partner Pokémon Stoutland were responsible for helping travelers who became lost in the mountains, though they have since retired from that role. Oscar is introduced when the rescue operator Virgil makes an emergency landing near his home while returning from a mountain rescue mission, and the two soon cross paths.
During a hike in which Anna slipped and fell, Oscar directed Stoutland to hold on to her and then lowered a rope himself in an attempt to pull them to safety. The ground gave way, however, and Oscar was caught in a landslide along with Anna and Stoutland. An unfamiliar Pokémon suddenly appeared and used its psychic powers to lift all three of them to solid ground before departing. Oscar and Anna later share this account with Virgil, and their story is what first draws attention to the presence of Mewtwo in the area.
Oscar is a caring and level-headed grandfather who acts quickly when Anna is in danger. He is grateful for the rescue and does not respond to Mewtwo with fear despite its power and mysterious nature. When the group learns that Mewtwo has been wounded, he supports the effort to find it, joining Anna, Virgil, and the hunter Dank in the search.
