Description
Gaaruru is a Vocal Doll born from the negative feelings of girls who believed they could never become idols. A member of the Mini-Falulu species, she has 99 sisters, including named siblings like Naaruru, Hyaruru, Charuru, Maalulu, and Pyaruru. Her birthday falls on April 17th, making her an Aries. Physically, she resembles Falulu before her rebirth but possesses sharp eyes, shark-like teeth, and thick black hair initially tied in pigtails with red ribbons; her eyes are gray-blue. After growing to human size around the sixth opening theme, her hair loses the ribbons while retaining her sharp features.
Initially mischievous and disobedient, Gaaruru rejected social interactions, expressing disdain for idols, singing, and dancing. She isolated herself, responding to others with growling or biting. A pivotal change occurred when she consumed a pickled plum offered by Sophy Hojo, expelling a "Spiny Bug" identified as the source of her antagonism. Freed from this influence, she revealed her previous actions stemmed from jealousy over her inability to perform and became noticeably kinder. Inspired by witnessing a performance, she embraced her identity as a "Kaijū Idol" (monster idol), channeling her monstrous traits into her stage presence.
She debuted in the anime during Season 2, Episode 58. Gaaruru formed the unit Gaarmageddon with Aroma Kurosu and Mikan Shiratama in Episode 82, though their official team formation solidified in Episode 105 after Gaaruru initiated a risky ceremony to bond them, resulting in her Super Cyalume Coord. Her idol activities include performing "0-Week-Old (Arrange Version)" in Episode 80 and utilizing coords like the Fluffy Monster Coord, Red Marionette Mu Cyalume Coord, Gaarmageddon Red Dia Coord, and variations of her Super Cyalume Coord. Her preferred brand is Marionette Mu.
Gaaruru is Falulu's younger sister; their dynamic was initially strained, though Falulu consistently expressed love for her. She shares a close bond with Garara S Leep, connecting over their mutual dislike of nighttime. Her manager is Neko. A spinoff novel explores an original story where Gaaruru receives a mysterious black envelope containing a photograph of two girls resembling her, prompting an investigation into her origins. With Aroma and Mikan, she ventures through a cursed gate at the PriPara Museum, confronting unresolved fears tied to her creation.
Her name "Gaaruru" derives from "growl," reflecting her initial demeanor. She is the only main Vocal Doll without a forehead accessory. In later media, such as *Idol Land PriPara*, she appears in a diminished capacity due to broader narrative events but retains her core identity as a monster idol.
