Description
Lulu is one of the two main characters in the anime Ganbare! Lulu Lolo - Tiny Twin Bears. She is an orange-colored twin bear sister who, together with her yellow sister Lolo, navigates the daily adventures of taking on new jobs and tasks. Lulu is depicted as energetic, spirited, and hard-working. She and her sister are always good friends, though they occasionally quarrel. They are also quick to cry when things go wrong—whether from a rival’s interference or their own mistakes—and the only thing that reliably cheers them up is their grandmother’s homemade cookies.
Lulu’s motivations are simple but earnest: she and Lolo want to do their best in every new challenge they undertake, even if their efforts often lead to comical failures and tears. Her role in the story is that of a protagonist who, alongside her sister, learns about perseverance, cooperation, and the importance of trying again after disappointment. She appears in all three seasons of the series, which are short five-minute episodes aimed at young children.
Key relationships frame Lulu’s world. Her twin sister Lolo is her constant companion and partner in every job they attempt. They are described as always good friends, supporting each other through successes and setbacks. Their grandmother is a comforting figure whose cookies serve as a reward and a source of comfort. Their parents, Maggie (a supporting character), and other figures such as a neighbor uncle and a rival also appear, but Lulu’s primary bond is with Lolo.
Over the course of the series, Lulu’s development is subtle but consistent: she grows from a bear cub who easily breaks into tears into one who repeatedly tries again, learning that effort and friendship matter more than immediate success. She does not possess any special abilities; instead, her notable trait is her cheerful determination and her willingness to laugh, cry, and then keep going. Her orange color distinguishes her from her yellow sister, and her design—like the show’s hybrid animation style—evokes the picture-book origins of the characters from The Bear’s School series.
