TV-Series
Description
Laala Manaka is the primary protagonist of the PriPara series. Starting as an ordinary elementary student at Paprika Private Academy, she becomes an idol. In daily life, she appears young with lavender hair styled in two buns featuring side tufts and a cowlick, always adorned with a pink bow bearing a golden heart. Upon entering the virtual idol theme park PriPara, she transforms into a taller, middle school-statured form. Here, her hair releases into long pigtails reaching her thighs with curled ends, still featuring her signature bow.
She radiates relentless cheerfulness, optimism, and fierce determination. Influenced by her family's restaurant background, she frequently uses the informal catchphrase "Capisce!" (かしこま!, Kashikoma!) when agreeing or understanding. Energetic and loud-spoken, she initially lacks singing confidence outside PriPara, finding her voice fully only during park performances. She often mispronounces words and meanings, requiring correction, and refers to herself using the informal pronoun "Atashi".
Her idol journey begins after discovering a dropped PriTicket bag belonging to Mirei Minami. Using the ticket to enter PriPara, Mirei convinces her to perform, leading to her debut. Specializing in lovely-style fashion, particularly the brand Twinkle Ribbon, she forms the core group SoLaMi♡SMILE with Mirei and Sophy Hojo (the name combines their first syllables: So-Sophy, La-Laala, Mi-Mirei). She later creates subgroups SoLaMi♡Dressing and SoLa♡Ageddon Mi. Following a system update, she adopts the robotic character Jewlulu as her daughter.
Her development includes evolving performance outfits (Coords), starting with the "Cutie Ribbon Coord" and upgrading to the "Twinkle Ribbon Cyalume Coord" after episode 14. She achieves milestones like obtaining the first Super Cyalume Coord and the essential Cyalume Baton for high-level idol challenges. Manager Kuma and friend Falulu note her unique "Prism Voice" ability, though its full potential remains undefined.
Relationships are central. She lives with her parents, who run a restaurant, and her younger sister Non, whom she enlists to conceal her idol identity. Her school best friend is Nao Ehime, alongside classmates Aroma Kurosu and Mikan Shiratama. In PriPara, she shares close bonds with Mirei and Sophy, while rivalries with Sion Todō, Dorothy West, and Reona West evolve into friendships. Later, she rooms with Yui Yumekawa at Avocado Academy, performing the duo song "Brand New·Happiness!" about dreaming and perseverance.
Her engagements extend beyond PriPara. She participates in the cross-franchise virtual live event "Dream Collaboration Festival ~Aikatsu! Series & Pretty Series~". She stars in the movie *PriPara Movie: Mi~nna Atsumare! Prism☆Tours*, featuring characters from the broader Pretty Rhythm series and focusing on her discovery of a top idol's journey. She continues as deuteragonist in *Idol Time PriPara* and *Idol Land PriPara*.
She is the sole PriPara character appearing in *Pretty Rhythm: All Star Selection* and remains the youngest main idol in her series. Her name, derived from the solfège note "La", and surname "Manaka" (center), contrast with teammates' directional surnames (Mirei "south", Sophy "north"), symbolizing their group dynamic.
