Description
Chiaki Ōgaki attends Motosu High School and co-founded the Outdoor Activities Club with Aoi Inuyama. Her love for camping began on childhood family trips, inspired by experiences like eating curry and sleeping outdoors, motivating her to create the club for more frequent adventures.
She has fair skin, thigh-length bluish-purple hair typically tied in twin side ponytails, brown eyes, and wears semi-rectangular wire-frame glasses. Her bangs started very short but grew slightly longer in Season 2. During outdoor excursions, she wears black leggings, reddish-brown boots, and a large dark-blue coat, while sporting Motosu High’s standard female uniform at school. After manga chapter 54, Aoi trims her hair to medium shoulder-length. As an adult, she retains longer bangs.
Friendly, bright, and energetic, Chiaki often acts as the group’s mood-maker. She exhibits mischievous tendencies, teaming with Aoi for pranks—especially targeting Nadeshiko. Impulsiveness leads to hasty decisions and mishaps like improperly preparing homemade sausage or mishandling equipment. Extremely budget-conscious, she experiences nosebleeds when confronted with expensive purchases like high-end camping gear. Despite her enthusiasm, she lacks athletic stamina and tires quickly during hiking or cycling.
Her club responsibilities include recruiting members and managing limited resources. She initially rejected Nadeshiko’s application due to space constraints but accepted her upon learning four members qualified them for a larger room. She persistently invited Rin Shima and Ena Saitō, though they preferred solo camping. To fund activities, she worked part-time at Kawamoto Liquors’ Minobu branch, frequented by club advisor Minami Toba. The real-life counterpart of this store closed in January 2021 due to COVID-19.
In the spin-off "Room Camp," Chiaki participates in the club’s indoor activities and joins Nadeshiko and Aoi on trips across Yamanashi Prefecture.
As an adult in the movie, Chiaki works as a tourism promoter for Yamanashi Prefecture after quitting a job in Kyoto. She spearheads a project to regenerate a disused site in Takaori, inviting her high school friends to collaborate. During this period, she develops a fondness for alcohol, reminiscent of Minami Toba, earning the nickname "second Gubi-nee." In one incident, she drunkenly drags Rin to the Takaori site via taxi after Rin suggests converting it into a campsite, then drunk-texts invitations to others. When Jōmon-period earthenware discoveries threaten the project, she revises plans with her friends. Their proposal, presented in a promotional video, secures approval, leading to the campsite’s inauguration on October 2.
Her birthday is August 31. Her name combines "thousand" and "clear/bright/autumn," while her surname originates from Ōgaki city in Gifu Prefecture. She is the only main character whose immediate family remains unseen across all media. In a 2021 survey, she ranked 5th among favorite franchise characters.
