Description
Kei Sha, also known by his epithet the Silent Hunter, is a character from the state of Zhao. He rose to prominence as a general in the Zhao military and was regarded as the most trusted vassal of the supreme commander Ri Boku, having once been his student. During the reign of King Tou Jou, Kei Sha was considered the closest man to the final seat of the Three Great Heavens, Zhao's highest honor for its greatest generals, and was counted among the five most important figures in the Zhao Military at the time of his death.
Kei Sha's background is one of tragedy transformed into opportunity. As a child, his village was destroyed by a bandit raid that killed his parents. After being orphaned, he was taken in by a local weaponsmith and lived in an old weapons shop. During this time, he participated in mock tabletop strategy tournaments, winning prize money and honing his tactical mind. His talent was noticed after he defeated one of Ri Boku's students, prompting Ri Boku to take him on as a student and protégé, which set him on the path to becoming a military commander.
In terms of personality, Kei Sha was generally a calm and good-mannered individual, evident in his speech and actions. He derived a certain satisfaction from watching his opponents be torn apart by the elaborate traps he set, likened to a spider ensnaring its prey. However, this patience had a limit. Ri Boku himself noted that his impatience was a critical weakness, as he could become irritated when an opponent refused to be lured into his traps and did not reveal their methods of warfare. This impatience would ultimately provoke him to leave the safety of his defensive position and enter the battlefield directly, a move that led to his demise. Intense killing intent was occasionally seen emanating from him, visualized as a spider.
Kei Sha's primary motivation was his ambition to claim the final vacant seat among Zhao's Three Great Heavens, a goal that drove his actions on the battlefield. His death at the Battle of Kokuyou Hills cut this ambition short, and his final expressed regret was that he was unable to repay his debt to his lord, Ri Boku.
As a military commander, Kei Sha was a uniquely gifted Instinctual Type general. This meant he relied on intuition and instinct to read the flow of battle rather than rigid, pre-set strategies. His specific approach earned him the name Silent Hunter, as he favored a defensive, observant style. He would patiently weave a web of fluid strategy, observing the battlefield to set traps before launching lethal counterattacks. Ri Boku, a master strategist himself, stated that Kei Sha was the most terrifying instinctual general he had ever encountered and admitted to losing to Kei Sha in numerous simulation battles. Duke Hyou, a renowned instinctual general of Qin, also remarked on Kei Sha's elusiveness, noting the difficulty in pinning him down despite his own powerful offense.
Kei Sha proved his abilities during the Coalition Invasion arc, where he led the attack on the Qin city of Bayou and later faced Duke Hyou at the Battle of Kankoku Pass. In that engagement, he nearly defeated the Duke by successfully attacking the rear of his army, dealing significant damage. He was also astute enough to quickly see through a Qin plan to use Duke Hyou as bait for a pincer attack, ordering a swift retreat before the trap could close. In the later Koku You Campaign arc, he demonstrated his tactical prowess by using his own soldiers as bait to launch a flanking attack, successfully isolating powerful enemy units like the Zenou Clan and forcing them to retreat.
However, his weakness for impatience was exploited by the cunning Qin general Kan Ki. By refusing to act as expected and using psychological warfare, Kan Ki successfully lured Kei Sha out of his defensive web. Leaving his secure position, Kei Sha personally led his elite guards to attack the Hi Shin Unit. Although he managed to escape an initial counterattack, he was pursued and ultimately killed in a one-on-one duel by Shin, the commander of the Hi Shin Unit. In their brief clash, Kei Sha proved a challenge, showing surprising strength and precision with his sword, but he was ultimately unable to defeat the young Qin warrior.
Physically, Kei Sha was a clean-shaven man with long black hair that he tied into two distinctive sphere-shaped knots featuring a chessboard pattern, a style possibly representing his tribal origins in Zhao. He wore a suit of armor under orange and black robes. His official statistics list his strength at 88, his leadership at 90, and his intelligence at 91, reflecting his balanced nature as a capable frontline fighter and a brilliant tactical commander. His leadership was potent enough to inspire fierce loyalty; after his death, the remnants of his army went berserk, desperately seeking to avenge their master.
