TV-Series
Description
Fu Tei is a military commander from the state of Zhao who serves as a key vassal and trusted bodyguard to the great strategist Ri Boku. He first appears as a 3000-man commander during the Coalition Invasion Arc, specifically in the Battle of Sai, and over the course of the series rises through the ranks to attain the position of general. He is a young man of average build with dirty-blonde hair, blue eyes, and pale skin, distinguished by a scar across his right temple. His typical attire consists of light purple commander's armor, a helmet adorned with a feather, and a scarf that covers his nose and mouth, leaving only his eyes visible; this scarf is worn to protect against allergens.

In terms of personality, Fu Tei is characterized by an easy-going and playful demeanor, often joking or making lighthearted comments even in the midst of bloody battles. This behavior creates a strong contrast with his close comrade Kaine, who is much more serious and stern. Fu Tei possesses a significant amount of self-confidence and a high opinion of his own abilities, which is reflected in his habit of referring to himself in the third person using the honorific "sama". His primary driving motivation is a deep ambition to one day earn a seat among Zhao's legendary Three Great Heavens, the highest honor for a warrior in his state. Despite his smug exterior, he is not above showing respect to worthy adversaries, as demonstrated when he offered the enemy officer Rin Gyoku a quick and honorable death rather than allowing him to be captured and tortured. A recurring trait is his tendency to be distracted by attractive women, and he frequently flirts with Kaine, whom he affectionately refers to as his future wife, though his advances are consistently brushed aside or met with physical reprimands.

Fu Tei's primary role in the story is that of a persistent antagonist and a recurring obstacle for the protagonists of Qin, particularly the Hi Shin Unit. He is a loyal follower of Ri Boku and remains with him through various campaigns and even periods of political exile. His key relationships are central to his character. He is utterly devoted to Ri Boku, acting as his bodyguard and executing his strategic commands on the battlefield. His dynamic with Kaine is complex, functioning as a professional rivalry balanced with a one-sided romantic pursuit, which serves as a running source of comedic relief.

Throughout the series, Fu Tei undergoes significant development in his military career. He participates in several major conflicts, including the Battle of Sai, the Battle of Shukai Plains, the Battle of Gian, and the Hango Campaign. His role evolves from a young, promising 3000-man commander eager to prove himself to a seasoned general entrusted with leading tens of thousands of soldiers and executing complex tactical maneuvers, such as spearheading a wedge formation to pincer the enemy’s headquarters.

Regarding his notable abilities, Fu Tei is a highly skilled warrior whose combat style relies almost entirely on immense speed and precise technique rather than raw physical strength. He is a master of dual-wielding swords, capable of dispatching enemy soldiers and even experienced 100-man commanders like Den Yuu and Ryuu Sen with remarkable ease. His fighting style often involves baiting his opponent into swinging first, then using his superior reflexes to evade and counter with precise stabs to vital areas. His speed is such that the protagonist Shin once remarked it might be on par with the prodigious assassin Kyou Kai. He has also demonstrated proficiency in ranged combat, saving Ri Boku's life by killing an enemy soldier with a precisely thrown sword. As a commander, Fu Tei possesses above-average leadership and tactical knowledge, allowing him to effectively marshal large forces. However, his effectiveness is noted to be somewhat reliant on the strategic direction of his master, Ri Boku, as he lacks the independent tactical brilliance to command a large-scale battle entirely on his own.
