Description
Kagetora is a purebred Kai Ken with dark fur, black stripes, and eyes often depicted as brown, yellowish, or greenish. Two prominent scars mark the left side of his muzzle, permanent reminders of an encounter with the monstrous dog Kaibutsu.

He is the oldest son of Kurotora and brother to Harutora and Nobutora. His extended family includes uncles Akatora and Chūtora, and cousins Buru, Dodo, Shigure, and Shōji. Kagetora spent his early life in Kofu alongside his father and other former Ōu soldiers who had departed the mountains. There, he forged a close friendship with Ken, son of Ōu leaders Ben and Cross. At three years old, Kagetora and Ken left Kofu for the Ōu Mountains to become soldiers. Their peace shattered when Kaibutsu launched a devastating attack, slaughtering most Ōu soldiers, reducing territory to rubble, and leaving Kagetora and Ken among the few survivors.

Kagetora embodies the Kai Ken traits of bravery, loyalty, and readiness to sacrifice his life for comrades. He once stated a suitable death for him would involve dying for friends or committing love suicide. However, he is also short-tempered, impulsive, and prone to recklessness in battle. A rebellious streak surfaces when he questions leadership, leading him to initially form a small rebellion group outside Ōu. This attitude caused friction with rule-adherent Ken, though they reconciled. Despite his volatility, Kagetora remains deeply committed to his allies and the Ōu cause.

In *Ginga Densetsu Weed*, Kagetora joined Weed’s forces upon learning Weed was Gin’s son. During the conflict against Hougen, he and Ken were sent to Kofu to recruit reinforcements. His brothers, Harutora and Nobutora, joined his group, while his father and cousins defended the fortress Gajō against Genba the Great Dane. Kagetora later played a pivotal role battling Hougen’s subordinate Batto and helped rescue Weed from an icy river.

During *Ginga Densetsu Weed: Orion*, Kagetora survived a volcanic eruption and was imprisoned alongside other Ōu soldiers by Jinemon Kurohabaki in a mountain mine. Freed, he fought in the final battle against Jinemon’s son, Masamune Kurohabaki.

In *Ginga: The Last Wars*, Kagetora investigated a blood scent with Weed’s group, leading to an ambush by Akakabuto's descendants. He fought the hybrid bear Monsoon, sustaining severe injuries protecting Gin. Imprisoned after the bears took Ōu, he was rescued by Mole’s group. Despite his wounds, he volunteered as a decoy against Monsoon, invoking his uncle Akatora’s legacy before charging the bear and biting its left eye, contributing to its retreat. After treatment, Kagetora witnessed internal conflicts within Ōu, including Orion’s near-suicidal fall and leadership challenges. He participated in training inspired by Orion’s ninja techniques and supported raising the bear cub Chibi.

Kagetora continues serving in subsequent stories, maintaining his presence as a loyal Ōu warrior. Though often perceived as younger, he is only slightly younger than Gin, making him one of the older members of the Ōu army.
