Description
Fraw Bow originates as a civilian neighbor and classmate of Amuro Ray on Side 7's Colony 7. Living with her mother and grandfather, she serves on the class disciplinary committee and actively ensures Amuro maintains basic routines like eating and bathing, especially during colony emergencies, due to his father Tem Ray's frequent absences for Project V.
During the Zeon assault on September 18, UC 0079, Fraw goes to Amuro's house to secure his evacuation. Chasing him, she narrowly avoids an explosion that kills her mother and grandfather. Witnessing her profound grief, Amuro forces her to flee and pilots the RX-78-2 Gundam in retaliation. Both escape aboard the White Base with other survivors, including Hayato Kobayashi, Mirai Yashima, Sayla Mass, Kai Shiden, Ryu Jose, and orphaned children Katz, Letz, and Kikka.
Facing severe crew shortages on White Base, Fraw volunteers for duty. She initially assists with communications alongside Sayla Mass. Her role expands significantly as she becomes the primary caregiver for Katz, Letz, and Kikka, effectively acting as their surrogate mother while also managing meal preparation and crew welfare. This cements her distinct maternal position within the crew. As Amuro struggles with piloting the Gundam and his emerging Newtype abilities, becoming distant and unstable, Fraw strives unsuccessfully to bridge the emotional gap. During this period, she finds companionship with mobile suit pilot Hayato Kobayashi, who confides his insecurities in her.
After the One Year War, Fraw marries Hayato Kobayashi. They formally adopt Katz, Letz, and Kikka, and Fraw becomes pregnant with Hayato's biological child. Complex feelings for Amuro persist. During the Gryps Conflict, she visits Amuro with her family, encouraging him to settle down and humorously suggesting Sayla Mass. Katz, inspired by Amuro, joins the AEUG with Fraw's reluctant permission, acknowledging their similar personalities.
Tragedy strikes during the First Neo Zeon War. Hayato Kobayashi is killed during the Dublin Colony Drop, leaving Fraw a widow. Their adopted son Katz had died earlier during the Gryps War.
In the manga "Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam Define," Fraw and her remaining adopted children, Kikka and Letz, live underground under Karaba's protection, a departure from the anime's depiction. Following advice from Sayla Mass, she assists Char Aznable in locating Amuro to recruit him for the AEUG, setting aside past animosities based on trust from her late husband and former White Base crewmates. This facilitates a mediated reunion between Amuro and Char.
By UC 0094, after the Second Neo Zeon War and Amuro being declared deceased, Fraw declines an invitation to his memorial ceremony at Side 1. During a meal with Kikka, who wishes to write a book humanizing Amuro, Fraw recalls his lack of domestic skills and her constant need to remind him to eat. She gives Kikka a letter from the late Hayato and Kai Shiden's business card to aid her research.
