TV Special
Description
Lysandre is the leader of Team Flare and the head of Lysandre Labs, a wealthy and influential figure in the Kalos region. In the story, he is deeply interested in Mega Evolution and its underlying energy, which he seeks to understand and harness. His personality is calm, calculating, and authoritative, yet he displays occasional concern for the well‑being of Pokémon, as when he assures the young trainer Mairin that he will do everything possible to save her Chespin after it falls into a coma following an encounter with a Zygarde core.

Lysandre’s primary motivation in this special is to test the strength and resolve of Alain, a young trainer he has supplied with a Key Stone and a Charizardite X. To this end, he arranges a gauntlet of ten opponents capable of Mega Evolution. He imposes a strict condition: if Alain loses a single match, Lysandre will reclaim the Mega Ring and Mega Stone, as he has no time for weaklings. This challenge serves not only to push Alain to his limits but also to gauge whether Alain can be a useful asset for Lysandre’s larger ambitions, which involve the harnessing of Mega Evolution energy on a grand scale.

Lysandre’s role in the episode is that of a benefactor, observer, and manipulator. He presides over Alain’s battles at Lysandre Labs, watching silently as Alain fights through a series of Mega Evolved opponents. He also hosts the arrival of Steven Stone, showing him a large megalith encased in an energy‑containment chamber, implying that Lysandre is involved in projects that reach far beyond a simple training exercise. When Mairin and her Chespin become caught up in the presence of Zygarde cells and a Zygarde core hidden in the lab, Lysandre steps in and promises to help heal the Chespin, revealing a more comforting side.

Key relationships in the special include his transactional bond with Alain, built on offering power in exchange for service; his professional acquaintance with Malva of the Kalos Elite Four, who oversees some of the battles; and his brief, guarded interaction with Steven Stone, whom he leads to the megalith. Throughout this segment, Lysandre’s true long‑term goals remain partially hidden, but he is clearly a central force driving the events that push Alain to grow stronger and that set up deeper conflicts involving Mega Evolution and the legendary Pokémon Zygarde. His notable abilities include access to advanced technology, possession of a Pyroar, and the capacity to provide Mega Stones and Key Stones to others; he is also shown to have a deep understanding of Mega Evolution energy and its potential.
