Description
Ghetsis Harmonia Gropius, known as Ghetsis, commands Team Plasma and its Seven Sages as the true mastermind. His ultimate goal manipulates the organization to ensure only he controls Pokémon in Unova, securing his dictatorship. To this end, he adopts N, a boy who communicates with Pokémon, grooming him as Team Plasma's symbolic king. Ghetsis deliberately shapes N's ideals by exposing him to mistreated Pokémon, fostering a belief in liberation, while secretly planning to exploit N's eventual control over the legendary dragon Zekrom or Reshiram.

Publicly, Ghetsis presents a charismatic persona advocating for Pokémon rights, delivering persuasive speeches in places like Accumula Town to convince people releasing their Pokémon is liberation. This masks his true belief that Pokémon are mere tools for human ambition. His manipulation extends to other adoptive children, Concordia and Anthea, though their roles remain largely unexplored. He secures Team Plasma's loyalty by propagating a narrative of creating a utopia free from human-Pokémon enslavement, orchestrating schemes like the theft of Bianca's Munna in Castelia City.

When N fails to defeat the player after summoning Unova's legendary dragon, Ghetsis openly disavows him, labeling N a "warped freak without a human heart" and a "defective pawn." He then battles the player as the final opponent using high-level Pokémon. Defeat leads to temporary detainment by Champion Alder and Cheren, though he escapes custody with Shadow Triad assistance.

Two years later, Ghetsis resurfaces leading Neo Team Plasma, abandoning subterfuge for conquering Unova through brute force. He recruits scientist Colress, aiming to harness Kyurem's power to freeze the region into submission. Cornering the player in the Giant Chasm, he attempts to kill them using Kyurem's Glaciate, an act thwarted by N's intervention. Ghetsis deploys DNA Splicers to fuse Kyurem with N's Reshiram or Zekrom, creating Black Kyurem or White Kyurem. After this fused entity is defeated, he battles the player again. His subsequent loss triggers a severe mental breakdown, rendering him incapable of further criminal activity according to the Shadow Triad.

In an alternate dimension depicted in *Pokémon Ultra Sun* and *Ultra Moon*, Ghetsis achieves his goal of ruling Unova and capturing the region's legendary dragon. As part of Team Rainbow Rocket, he collaborates with other villainous leaders under Giovanni, expanding his objective to liberating Pokémon across all dimensions to consolidate ultimate power. He attempts to take Lillie hostage when confronted by the player but is foiled by an alternate dimension's Colress, who forcibly returns him to his original world.

Ghetsis's personality consistently exhibits megalomania, cruelty, and strategic manipulation. He displays intense rage when plans unravel, evidenced by violent outbursts like slamming his cane and shouting. His later appearances indicate escalating mental instability, culminating in incoherent denial after definitive defeats. He dismisses any notion of harmonious human-Pokémon coexistence as an obstacle to absolute control.

His physical appearance evolves. In *Black* and *White*, he wears an elaborate white robe with a two-toned cloak featuring eye patterns and conceals his right hand within his garments. By *Black 2* and *White 2*, his attire shifts to a black cloak with visible eye motifs, yellow bracelets, and black boots, while his right hand—marked with the Team Plasma logo—grips a cane used for support and emitting signals to disrupt Poké Ball functionality.

Within the animated short series *Pokémon Generations* (Episode 15), which adapts key game moments, Ghetsis features in the confrontation with the player and N at the Giant Chasm. This includes his use of Kyurem and subsequent mental collapse following defeat, consistent with his game depiction emphasizing fury and instability.

In *Pokémon Masters EX*, Ghetsis appears as a sync pair with Kyurem after being transported to Pasio via a mysterious ring. He initially expresses regret for past actions and seeks reconciliation with N, but his overtures are rejected. He subsequently adopts a non-confrontational stance, though his underlying motivations remain ambiguous.
