Description
Adopted into the Onigashima family by Isamu Onigashima after his biological father Kaizu Shinya died protecting Hikaru’s uncle in a yakuza conflict, Houou Onigashima became the non-biological older brother to Hikaru Onigashima and Hinako Nakayama approximately fifteen years before the main events. Raised separately from Hikaru, Houou developed fierce protectiveness toward both adoptive siblings despite Hikaru’s resulting prejudice. Upholding family tradition, he enrolled at Shishiku Academy for delinquents and dominated it within a month, securing the third-year banchou title and legendary status while specializing in judo as his primary combat style.
When the twins switched places, Houou mistook Hinako for Hikaru, showering "him" with cheerful, doting attention and visibly delighting in being called "onii-chan." He actively aided "Hikaru" (Hinako) in conquering Shishiku, mentoring her in combat and shielding her from threats like the Urashima gang. His protectiveness extended to the real Hikaru despite initial hostility, vowing to guard both siblings from yakuza conflicts.
Houou uncovered Hinako’s identity while caring for her during a fever-induced collapse, discovering her gender upon removing her uniform. After confronting her and learning of the twin switch, he demanded an explanation from Hikaru. Though angered by the deception, he accepted Hinako’s reasoning for attending Shishiku. This revelation shifted his relationship with Hinako; initial awkwardness around her as a girl evolved into romantic feelings. Later, he confronted Isamu about the family’s past, exposing the truth behind Hinako and her mother’s separation and spearheading reconciliation during Kenji Urashima’s (Isamu’s brother) attack.
Post-conflict, Houou volunteered to leave the family to resolve succession disputes in Hikaru’s favor. However, acknowledging his love for Hinako, he rescinded this decision and sought Isamu’s approval to date her. Remaining with the Onigashimas, he married Hinako in a traditional ceremony, formally assumed the family succession, and pledged to protect them and their community as future yakuza leader.
