Tasuke Tokugawa, second son of the late Chief Engineer Hikozaemon Tokugawa, trained as a cadet to follow his father's path. He served as an assistant engineer under Yamazaki aboard the space battleship Yamato, advancing to Chief Engineer by the time of Space Battleship Yamato Resurrection.

In Resurrection (2220), the older, experienced Tokugawa oversees the Yamato's newly rebuilt engine systems at the Aquarius asteroid dock. He showcases the advanced propulsion technology, including the powerful Transition Wave-Motion Gun – a giant six-cylinder revolver – to Captain Susumu Kodai during an inspection. Tokugawa intervenes authoritatively to stop junior crew member Jun Kobayashi from attacking Kodai.

His responsibilities encompass maintaining and operating the Yamato's wave motion engine, demonstrating technical expertise and leadership during the mission to protect Earth's Third Emigration Fleet from hostile alien forces. He commands an engineering team including the Tenma twins, who manage the new engine from a dedicated control room. Tokugawa operates from the engine room and also oversees newer ship areas like the enhanced navigation center, termed the "third bridge." His career marks an evolution from junior officer reliant on mentorship to senior technical leader entrusted with critical systems during interstellar conflict.
