TV Special
Description
Medusa, a gorgon demon originating from Hell, possesses pale skin, short light purple hair, and matching eye color. Her appearance necessitates wearing a paper bag over her head outdoors to prevent accidentally petrifying humans through direct eye contact. Early depictions feature Roman-style attire, later incorporating Egyptian motifs following a "leveling up" event. She exceeds 7,000 years of age, having been a child during the Great Flood within the series' lore.

Her personality embodies the yamato nadeshiko archetype, displaying exceptional politeness, kindness, and a positive influence. This demeanor shifts dramatically when angered, triggering a "Passive-Aggressive Mode" marked by eerily calm speech and heightened formality. Extreme emotional states induce "Medusa High," a rare condition causing uncontrollable excitement and madness in nearby beings, including demons, angels, and deities. This state overrides her usual petrification, replacing it with empathic manipulation that encourages reckless or self-destructive behavior in victims. Only Yurine Hanazono exhibits immunity.

Medusa's core relationship is with the lamia Jashin-chan, whom she considers her best friend. Their dynamic resembles a marital bond; Jashin-chan frequently exploits Medusa financially, calling her a "personal ATM," while Medusa shows unwavering, almost maternal devotion. Flashbacks reveal their childhood connection, where Jashin-chan defended Medusa from bullies, establishing lifelong interdependence. Despite Jashin-chan's manipulative tendencies, Medusa sabotages her assassination attempts against Yurine to protect her from repercussions. Their bond is reinforced through gestures like exchanging Valentine's chocolate or near-dates.

Beyond Jashin-chan, Medusa maintains friendships with Minos (a minotaur and fellow childhood friend) and Yurine. Initially summoned to petrify Yurine, Medusa befriended her after Jashin-chan inadvertently revealed Medusa's name, enabling Yurine to block the petrification with an anti-petrification bracelet. Medusa also participates in secret nightly patrols with her two sisters to enforce infernal laws, a duty disclosed only to Jashin-chan.

Her primary ability is petrification via eye contact, ineffective against non-humans like demons or angels. Suppression attempts using contact lenses backfired, temporarily turning Medusa herself to stone. She possesses enhanced durability, surviving Jashin-chan's physical assaults, and enhanced vision, allowing effortless navigation while blindfolded or wearing her paper bag. During the "Apocalypse Day" incident, she retained memories of altered timelines due to acausality (Type 1), recalling events others forgot.

Key incidents show Medusa neutralizing bank robbers by removing her paper bag and petrifying them after they react to her appearance. Her "Medusa High" state proves instrumental in resolving conflicts, overwhelming antagonists during confrontations. She demonstrates Class 5 lifting strength when restraining Jashin-chan during these episodes. Her crown is a family heirloom, and her design draws inspiration from 90s anime.
