Description
Mayumi Saegusa, born December 7, 2077, holds the position of eldest daughter within the influential Saegusa family, one of Japan's Ten Master Clans. She occupies the middle child position among siblings: two older paternal half-brothers and younger twin sisters, Kasumi and Izumi Saegusa. Her father, Kouichi Saegusa, later attempted to exploit her personal feelings for political maneuvering against the Yotsuba clan.

As a student at First High School (2093-2095), Mayumi served as Student Council President and was a key member of the "Triumvirate" alongside Katsuto Juumonji and Mari Watanabe, representing the school's strongest third-year magicians. She proactively initiated contact with Shiba Tatsuya on his first day. Leading efforts to diminish discrimination between Course 1 and Course 2 students, she appointed Tatsuya to the disciplinary committee. Her leadership blended approachability with strategic acumen, frequently mediating student conflicts.

Standing 155 cm tall and weighing 48 kg, Mayumi possesses long black hair and red eyes. She exhibits self-consciousness about her height, disliking nicknames such as "Elven Sniper" or "Elven Princess" despite their references to her marksmanship and beauty. Her personality balances a graceful, lady-like demeanor with a playful, occasionally mischievous streak. She demonstrates genuine care, often adopting an "older sister" role towards younger students, yet can display childish or subtly sadistic tendencies, like gifting bitter chocolates. She avoids frightening experiences such as haunted houses or steep slopes and enjoys playing the violin and drinking tea.

Mayumi's exceptional magical talents lie in long-range precision shooting. Specializing in "Magic Bullet Shooter," she forms and fires supersonic dry ice pellets capable of penetrating armor. This skill, combined with her innate sensory ability "Multi-Scope" – a visual radar-like power enabling multi-angle observation beyond physical obstructions – earned her global recognition as a top tactical magician. Her unique capacity to wield both modern magic and innate sensory powers simultaneously is considered irregular. She also employs "Psion Bullet" for precise counter-magic and "Multiple Bounce" for kinetic redirection, utilizing a universal bracelet-type CAD.

Interpersonally, Mayumi developed complex feelings for Tatsuya, initially viewing him as a younger brother before acknowledging deeper emotions. Learning of these feelings and Tatsuya’s Yotsuba connections, her father openly encouraged her to pursue him to undermine the Yotsuba, proposing the match at the Master Clans Conference. This created tension due to Tatsuya’s engagement to Miyuki Shiba. Katsuto Juumonji also attempted to foster a relationship, suggesting marriage as Mayumi's path into the Ten Master Clans. Despite these efforts, by 2099, Mayumi remained unmarried after several unsuccessful marriage interviews.

After graduation, she attended Magic University and initially worked for the Saegusa family. Her father later directed her to infiltrate the Magian Company, founded by Tatsuya, to uncover his motives. During her interview, she candidly admitted her father’s agenda but chose to join the company voluntarily after learning its goals, aligning herself with its mission irrespective of family interests. She maintained periodic contact with Tatsuya during this period.

Her development includes reconciling familial duties with personal values, exemplified when she defied naval forces to protect Watatsumi Kokoa during the Minamiteshima incident, using her magic to drive away pursuing aircraft. She also navigated evolving relationships with other Ten Master Clans heirs, like Masaki Ichijou, through shared conflicts.

Trivia notes indicate her third-place ranking in a series popularity poll and her status as the school’s most popular female student prior to Miyuki Shiba’s arrival. Her blend of elegance and unpredictability contributes to her distinctive narrative presence.
