Description
Setsura, a Yuki-Onna, served in Nurarihyon's Hyakki Yakō over 400 years before the main story and is Tsurara Oikawa's mother. Five centuries ago, she fought the Gyūki Clan among Nurarihyon's original forces, attempting to block Gyūki's advance until ordered to stand down.
Four hundred years ago, she openly voiced jealousy when Nurarihyon brought Yōhime to Shimabara, dismayed by another woman claiming his affection. Chastised by Karasu Tengu for her harsh tone toward Nurarihyon, she froze him and fled in rage. Later, she clashed with Ibaraki Dōji in a death match during the assault on Ōsaka Castle, left unresolved by Hagoromo Gitsune's defeat.
By 300 years ago, Setsura handled domestic duties within the Nura Clan's main house, cooking and laundering alongside Yamabuki Otome and Kejōrō. She nursed Yamabuki after Manba Centipede poisoning and expressed frustration over the passive nature of Nura women like Yōhime and Yamabuki, who refrained from leveraging their status.
Setsura harbors persistent, unrequited feelings for Nurarihyon, making overt or subtle advances despite his marriage. She becomes easily flustered when addressed by her personal name publicly. Her steadfast loyalty to the Nura Clan led her to serve under Rihan after Nurarihyon's era. She shares a close bond with Rihan, tending to him since birth as an older sister figure; he once declared he would marry her as a child.
Her relationship with daughter Tsurara is complex. Setsura sent Tsurara alone to the Nura main house at a young age, roughly a decade before Rikuo's birth. During the Cleansing Arc, she reappeared, criticizing Tsurara's performance against the Gokadoin clan: "How pitiful... and yet you're my daughter... aren't you?" She twice instructed Tsurara to "steal a kiss" – first from Rihan to fulfill her own unrealized wish with Nurarihyon, and later from Rikuo during the battle against Seimei.
Physically resembling an older Tsurara, Setsura has long, wavy black-and-blue hair, crimson eyes with concentric rings, and stands 153 cm tall. She typically wears a scarf with a growth-ring pattern and a furisode adorned with butterfly motifs along the hem and sleeves.
In the present day, Setsura defended the Nura Clan's main house during the Cleansing Arc, rejoining Nurarihyon's Hyakki Yakō. After Seimei's defeat, she celebrated at the clan's victory party, sharing drinks with Nurarihyon. Her status is alive.
