Wormmon serves as the partner Digimon to Ken Ichijouji, resembling a small green caterpillar with ten legs tipped in pink claws and long antennae. A black band reminiscent of a Dark Ring encircles its abdomen, which features two pink spines at the tip. This Digimon adheres to surfaces and generates silk from its mandibles. Its signature attacks are Silk Thread, firing needle-sharp threads, and Sticky Net, immobilizing foes with adhesive webbing.
First partnering when Ken entered the Digital World through his brother's computer, Wormmon joined Ryo Akiyama to battle and defeat Millenniummon in the desert. Millenniummon's destruction released Dark Spores, embedding one in Ken's neck. Later, as the Digimon Emperor, Ken treated Wormmon cruelly, yet Wormmon maintained steadfast loyalty rooted in deep friendship. Often providing comic relief during this period, Wormmon nevertheless defied Ken when Kimeramon went on a rampage. He guided Davis and Veemon to the Digi-Egg of Miracles, enabling Veemon's digivolution into Magnamon. When Magnamon struggled against Kimeramon, Wormmon sacrificed his life force to empower Magnamon, defeating Kimeramon but resulting in Wormmon's death. This sacrifice prompted Ken to renounce his evil ways. Wormmon was reborn as a Digi-Egg in Primary Village and later reunited with Ken.
Reborn, Wormmon achieved his Champion form, Stingmon, to combat artificial Digimon spawned from Control Spires by Arukenimon. Stingmon exhibits a cool, collected personality and strength exceeding most Champion-level Digimon. He destroyed an artificial Snimon and teamed with Aquilamon to defeat Golemon. Stingmon later DNA digivolved with ExVeemon to form Paildramon, which could further digivolve to Imperialdramon Dragon Mode using Azulongmon's power. Wormmon participated in battles against threats like Armageddemon, rapidly digivolving to Stingmon and merging into Paildramon and Imperialdramon as required.
Inherently shy and outwardly weak, Wormmon possesses strong determination and loyalty. He addresses Ken affectionately and prioritizes Ken's well-being, even opposing Ken's wishes when necessary. After Ken's redemption, Wormmon retained his gentle nature while developing a more playful side, interacting lightheartedly with Veemon and others. He remains deeply devoted to Ken, supporting his growth into a kinder person.
Descended from an ancient species, Wormmon performs Armor Digivolution using Digi-Eggs: becoming Bucchiemon with Kindness, Shadramon with Courage, and Quetzalmon with Light. Other Digi-Eggs enable forms like Togemogumon (Friendship), Owlmon (Love), and Kongoumon (Miracles). His natural evolution line progresses from Leafmon (Fresh) to Minomon (In-Training) to Stingmon (Champion) to Dinobeemon or GranKuwagamon (Ultimate). Through DNA Digivolution with ExVeemon, he forms Paildramon (Ultimate), Imperialdramon Dragon Mode (Mega), Imperialdramon Fighter Mode, and Imperialdramon Paladin Mode. Unique among the protagonist Digimon in *Digimon Adventure 02* as the sole Virus-attribute partner, Wormmon can sometimes digivolve to Champion level despite Control Spires suppressing digivolution and enter the human world without reverting to In-Training form.
In *Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna*, Wormmon appears as Ken's partner during conflicts involving Eosmon, which targets DigiDestined worldwide. The film explores themes of maturity and separation between partners, with Wormmon's role consistent with his established character: supportive of Ken and integrated into the team dynamics with other DigiDestined.
