Tailmon's origins lie in the aftermath of the 1995 Hikarigaoka battle, where Homeostasis's servants created her Digitama alongside those of the other partner Digimon. Gennai accidentally dropped her Digitama and Digivice while fleeing Piemon's forces, leaving her to hatch alone as Nyaromon in the Digital World. Knowing she awaited a destined human partner, Hikari Yagami, prolonged isolation and her failure to find Hikari drove her evolution into Plotmon and then Tailmon. Her solitary journey led her into the service of Vamdemon, who subjected her to regular abuse, marking her with a cross-shaped scar on her left paw hidden beneath her glove. This experience hardened her personality, fostering mistrust and emotional detachment, though a suppressed hope for connection remained. In a desert town, she encountered and aided Wizarmon, forging a bond through shared loneliness, though she later forgot this meeting. Wizarmon joined Vamdemon's forces specifically to support her, recognizing her search for Hikari.
During Vamdemon's invasion of the Real World, Tailmon observed Hikari while disguised as a cat, even contemplating eliminating her, but found herself unable to act. Her identity as Hikari's partner was confirmed when Wizarmon presented her lost Digivice, triggering her memories and beginning her emotional healing. Vamdemon captured her and threatened Hikari, leading to Wizarmon sacrificing himself to shield them. This sacrifice activated Hikari's Crest of Light, enabling Tailmon's evolution to Angewomon and Vamdemon's initial defeat. Later, against Venom Vamdemon, Angewomon channeled light to empower WarGreymon.
In Adventure 02, Tailmon lost her Holy Ring, the source of her Champion-level power, reducing her strength to that of a Rookie-level Digimon and significantly impacting her combat effectiveness until Gennai restored the ring at the season's end. Her personality remained mature and protective, often assuming leadership among the partner Digimon due to her perceptive and strategic nature. She maintained a close friendship with Patamon, mirroring their human partners' bond.
During the infection crisis in Digimon Adventure tri., Tailmon and the other partner Digimon reunited with their human partners years after the original Adventure. She faced threats from infected Digimon and Meicoomon, ultimately participating in the climactic battle against Ordinemon. This conflict resulted in her temporary reversion to Nyaromon after Ordinemon's defeat, symbolizing immense energy expenditure. Her interactions reinforced her role as a voice of reason and her unwavering dedication to Hikari's safety.
Following tri., Tailmon continued her partnership with Hikari. By 2027, Hikari, now a kindergarten teacher, desired to establish a kindergarten in the Digital World. Despite initial reservations about her suitability for working with children, Tailmon agreed to serve as a counselor to support Hikari's vision. She remained by Hikari's side as Hikari raised her son and attended gatherings with the other Chosen Children and their Digimon partners in the Digital World.
Across all media, Tailmon's default form is her Champion-level state, a rarity among partner Digimon attributed to her discipline. She typically reverts to lower forms like Plotmon or Nyaromon only after severe energy depletion, such as following battles against Venom Vamdemon, Raguelmon, or Ordinemon. Her primary attacks include Lightning Paw, utilizing claws derived from SaberLeomon's data, and Cat's Eye for manipulation. Her character arc consistently emphasizes resilience, loyalty forged through adversity, and the gradual softening of her initially guarded demeanor through her bond with Hikari.
