Description
Hosshi, originally named Acrux, is an extraterrestrial resembling a small green cat-like creature adorned with star-shaped markings. He served as the alien Phoenix's navigator for over 10,000 years until their spaceship malfunctioned and crash-landed on Earth. During emergency ejection, Hosshi separated from Phoenix and became sealed within an Egyptian pharaoh's tomb for roughly 3,000 years.
Freed by the phantom thief Joker during a treasure heist, Hosshi ignored his former companion Phoenix and attached himself to Joker and his apprentice Hachi. This choice arose from an immediate bond with Hachi, though Hosshi remained loyal to Joker despite Joker's overt dislike of cats and frequent attempts to avoid him. Hosshi's personality centers on an obsessive compulsion to consume valuable treasures, disregarding objections once fixated. The sole exception occurred when he consumed treasure inside a mechanical Sabertooth Tiger without damaging the exterior.
Consuming treasure triggers Hosshi's unique biology: he produces eggs that hatch into objects. While these objects often aid Joker's heists, Phoenix clarified that only extraterrestrial treasures from their scattered spaceship cargo yield items related to locating the "Ancient Treasure" – Phoenix's ship. Consuming Earth-made treasures still produced useful items like rubber gloves or spring wires, but without cosmic significance. This ability also granted Hosshi precognition, letting him generate tools anticipating future challenges, and treasure detection, enabling him to distinguish genuine artifacts from counterfeits.
During his time with Joker's crew, Hosshi aided global heists. Key treasures consumed include the Crystal Skull Key, which hatched the Red Phoenix Guidance Stone, and subsequent extraterrestrial items revealing other Guidance Stones (Blue Dragon, White Tiger, Black Tortoise, Yellow Kirin). These stones formed a map to Phoenix's spaceship. Consuming the Urn of Life yielded an image of an unknown island, while the Gold Coin of El Dorado produced antiseptic solution, demonstrating his ability's varied utility.
