Description
Hayate Ichikura is a twenty-year-old university student living in Tokyo, where he is majoring in economics. Standing 175 centimeters tall, his birthday falls on April 24. He currently resides in an apartment owned by his uncle, who is overseas for work. To support himself, he previously worked at a pub but left the position after it became popular with other college students; he now works as a part-time employee at the Mawarimichi Cafe.

Hayate is characterized by his self-reflective and caring nature, though he often struggles with a sense of lacking distinct individuality and finds it difficult to envision his future path. He is acutely aware of his own frequent clumsiness, which tends to leave him feeling embarrassed. When these awkward moments occur, he consciously tries to mask his chagrin with a composed demeanor, wishing to appear unruffled. Social interactions can be challenging for him, but his fundamental desire to support others drives his actions. Outside of work and study, he enjoys solitary walks and reading. He has a strong fondness for animals and personally owns two hamsters named Anko and Kinako. His favorite food is karaage, and he dislikes the taste of beer. He previously attended an all-boys high school where he played volleyball.

In the story, Hayate serves as a central figure whose connections with other characters form a significant part of the narrative. At the request of the cafe manager, Asami Futami, he tutors her younger brother, Shun Futami. Hayate considers Shun a kouhai he genuinely wishes to see succeed. He first encountered Souma Shiki outside the cafe; though Souma’s dyed hair, tattoos, and piercings initially intimidated him, recognizing Souma’s inherent kindness led to a solid friendship. He met Takayuki Mima near an animal cafe and came to view him as a dependable role model and mentor. His relationship with Motoharu Igarashi began in a park. Unaware that Motoharu was a renowned author he deeply admired, Hayate initially found it difficult to relax due to a sense of hero worship, but they eventually became good friends.

Throughout the series, Hayate shows development in his ability to form meaningful relationships and work collaboratively. As part of a group called Sora's Team, he acts as an ally to his friends and participates in team tasks, demonstrating a growing capacity to cooperate outside of his immediate comfort zone. While he does not possess supernatural or combat abilities, his notable traits include a strong sense of self-reflection and a persistent effort to maintain his composure despite his inner worries and habitual clumsiness.
