Description
Jyushimatsu Matsuno is one of six identical sextuplet brothers. His name fuses the Japanese term for the Bengalese finch (十姉妹, jūshimatsu) with kanji signifying "fourteen" (十四) and "pine tree" (松), reflecting a dual meaning. Early media presented inconsistent birth orders, occasionally suggesting he might be the youngest due to frequent last placement in listings. However, later works, including the 2015 spinoff, firmly establish him as the fifth-born, the second-youngest son.

Contrasting descriptions mark his childhood. Original manga settings portray him as quiet, gentle, reserved, prone to easy tears, and avoiding roughness. Conversely, later official profiles by Fujio Pro characterize him as the loudest, noisiest, and most talkative brother, skilled at singing like his namesake bird. An attempt to reconcile these depicts him as fundamentally quiet yet passionate about singing. Despite a kinder disposition, he participated in mischief and eccentric pranks, such as digging pitfalls or contaminating food. His obedience made him gullible and susceptible to manipulation by his brothers or others' harmful intentions. He expressed insecurity about his lack of distinction among the sextuplets, feeling his presence was the weakest and his name "never called first," leading to weariness with the world. Visually indistinguishable from his brothers as a child, some media assigned him purple or green as identifying colors.

A significant shift occurred during adolescence. Around age 16-18, he adopted a delinquent persona, sporting constantly narrowed eyes, a bitter expression, and an unkempt uniform. This tough facade masked his inherently happy and whimsical nature, which surfaced only when alone or unnoticed. This phase culminated after graduation, influenced by interactions between his adult and teenage selves, solidifying his eventual cheerful demeanor.

As an adult, his appearance became highly distinctive: a perpetually wide-open smiling mouth with a visible tongue (sometimes heart-shaped when crying), a single cowlick, and habitual attire consisting of a yellow hoodie with elongated sleeves, blue swim shorts, and white socks. He is the most energetically childlike and eccentric brother, almost constantly over-excited and rarely serious. His behavior is illogical and unpredictable, described as a "nuclear warhead-existence" due to extreme, often nonsensical actions driven by internal whims. This includes reality-warping feats like spontaneous self-multiplication or sudden muscle growth. Despite this, he displays notable kindness, exemplified by diligently helping Ichimatsu search for a lost cat. He struggles socially due to his extreme personality and can exhibit dangerous anger or unreasonable behavior when provoked, such as by cold weather. A darker aspect is revealed through his longstanding Christmas tradition of waiting to capture and tie up Santa Claus.

In relationships, he frequently pairs with Ichimatsu during childhood mischief or activities, forming one of the more common brotherly partnerships. As an adult, he maintains a notably closer bond with Ichimatsu compared to the others. He also appears alongside Karamatsu and Todomatsu in various childhood scenarios, though less consistently.

An alternate adult future depicted in "Osomatsu-kun Grows Up" shows him at age 35 working as a doctor, distinguishable by a Chaplin-style mustache. His medical skills are questioned after failing to save his father from choking on a fishbone, leading to familial blame-shifting. His marital status in this scenario remains ambiguous. In another storyline, he briefly dates an unnamed girl who appreciates his unique ability to understand her. Their relationship ends when she departs by train, leaving him visibly heartbroken—a rare display of deep vulnerability.
