Description
Chibita is a central character from the Osomatsu-kun series, originally created by Fujio Akatsuka. He began as a supporting figure but eventually became a lead character, even starring in his own spin-off manga such as Chibita-kun. His background is intentionally fluid, with his family situation changing across different stories. In early manga appearances, he was sometimes shown with an older brother or various parental figures, but he is most famously depicted as an orphan or a free-roaming child living alone in a pipe within a scrapyard.

Chibita's personality is a blend of cheeky mischief and surprising resilience. He is a determined young boy who refuses to give up, no matter how much he is pushed around by others. While he can be troublesome and sometimes devious, he is also known for being pure-hearted and kind, particularly in his friendships with animals like cats and frogs. This duality is a key part of his charm; he can be a vengeful rival one moment and a sympathetic underdog the next. His motivations are often simple and driven by immediate circumstances, such as seeking revenge on the Matsuno sextuplets for bullying him, getting back at Iyami for a betrayal, or simply enjoying his favorite food, oden. His deep and abiding love for oden is one of his most defining traits, and he is rarely seen without an oden skewer in hand.

In the narrative of Osomatsu-kun, Chibita primarily serves as a rival to the Matsuno sextuplets. He is constantly striving to get revenge on them for being bullied or to get the better of them in a prank war. Despite his small stature, he is considered an excellent fighter who often emerges from brawls unscathed. One of his most significant and complex relationships is with Iyami. Iyami often acts as a mentor or surrogate father figure to Chibita, and the two frequently team up to scheme against others. However, this relationship is not always stable, as Iyami will sometimes betray Chibita for his own gain, which naturally sparks the boy's desire for revenge. Chibita also has interactions with other characters, occasionally showing interest in young girls like Chikako, though these attempts at friendship or romance almost always end in dysfunction.

The character has undergone significant development across different adaptations and continuities. In the 1988 anime and original manga, he is a child roughly the same age as the sextuplets, standing at a diminutive 60 centimeters tall with a distinctive bald head, a single protruding hair, and whisker-like marks on his cheeks. In the later spin-off series Osomatsu-san, which features the characters as adults, Chibita has grown up to run his own oden stall. As an adult, he is more responsible and exasperated by the sextuplets' slacker ways and their habit of refusing to pay their tab. The film Osomatsu-san: The Movie provides a backstory for this version, showing him as a melancholy teenager who dropped out of school and denied his love for oden before eventually accepting his passion as a legitimate career path. Regarding his notable abilities, beyond his fighting skills, Chibita is distinguished by his distinct speech patterns, which include a rough accent, a characteristic laugh of "Kekeke," and catchphrases like "teyande barou chikusho," often translated as a curse.
