Ryo-Ohki, an artificial lifeform crafted by Washu Hakubi—the universe’s most revered scientific genius—originates as a crystalline starship engineered to serve Ryoko Hakubi. Her core integrates a mineral-based lifeform with Masu, a potent energy source, enabling her to channel energy through Ryoko’s three gems. These gems house Washu’s divine powers, rivaling the strength of Jurai’s legendary royal trees. After Washu’s imprisonment, Kagato commandeered Ryo-Ohki and Ryoko, weaponizing them to annihilate worlds until Prince Yosho halted their rampage seven centuries before the main narrative.
Following a clash with Ayeka’s royal treeship, Ryo-Ohki regenerated into an egg, merging with the remains of Tenchi Masaki’s deceased cat and rabbit to hatch as a cabbit—a feline-lapine hybrid. This form serves dual purposes: a companion and the central computer for her dormant crystalline ship, submerged near the Masaki Shrine’s lake. Her vocalizations, primarily meows, encode a compressed language decipherable by advanced listeners.
Reuniting with her original Masu core unlocks Ryo-Ohki’s humanoid transformations. She adopts a child-like guise most often, while her adult form sees limited use due to her playful mindset and struggles with bipedal balance. Despite her innocent, carrot-loving nature and affectionate antics, her combat potential surges when paired with Ryoko’s full gem set, generating ten Light Hawk Wings—a force equaling the goddess Tsunami.
Later narratives depict her forging deep bonds with Sasami Masaki Jurai, whom she accompanies daily, and Kenshi Masaki, Tenchi’s half-brother. Childhood adventures and training with Kenshi spur her gradual maturation, culminating in her frequent use of an adult form during the "War on Geminar" era, though she still identifies as Sasami’s "little sister."
In subsequent OVAs, Ryo-Ohki undergoes asexual reproduction via crystalline gestation, birthing three cabbit offspring. These heirs inherit her humanoid-shifting abilities, interacting with next-generation characters in spin-offs like "Tenchi Muyo! GXP." While her immense power sparks fears of replication, Washu prohibits mass-production, designing Fuku—a "sister" unit—as the Kamidake II’s successor instead.
Ryo-Ohki’s regenerative capabilities mirror biological immortality, resetting her to an embryonic state post-trauma, akin to the Turritopsis dohrnii jellyfish. This trait, paired with phoenix-like renewal symbolism, cements her mythic status. Her evolution across stories balances warlike origins with nurturing relationships, embodying both devastating power and nurturing bonds.
